Isoc urged to drop charges against human rights defender and media outlet

 

 

The Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc) has been urged to drop defamation charge against a human right defender who talked about his legal fight involving the alleged torture in military custody on the Thai PBS TV program.

 

The so-called Taskforce to Protect Civil Rights and Freedom of Expression on Friday (March 2) issued a statement, signed by over 20 academics and social activists, demanding the Isoc Region 4 forward command to stop all forms of intimidation, including filing police complaints against citizens, human rights defenders and the media.

 

The group mentioned two recent criminal and civil charges against Ismael Tae, the founder of the Patani Human Right Organization and MGR Online news website for reporting about Mr Ismael’s case.

Sensible. The whole defamation thing is childish and brings to mind "rattles and prams". In a culture of blame and narcissism, it seems so many people can't accept any criticism What happened to sticks and stones!

That a government agency descends to defamation instead of an investigation to discover the truth says far more about that agency than it does the defendant. 

These are the same things Thaksin did.  The current government is much better as they can solve problems arising from crucial things like beach chairs.  It was four years ago but that triumph will never be forgotten.

"The whole defamation thing is childish". Yes you are quite right. The problem is that children tend to behave childishly. And the person at the top set the standard very high when he cried "defamation" at the man who commented on his wife's handbag. The fool that he is.

Why is it necessary to put such a derogatory adjective as 'so-called' in the article? 'So-called ISOC', anyone?
