Hi guys,

I really hope to get some help here about moving from an official job in Thailand (all formal incl WP & Work Visa etc) to on and off 3-month stays in Thailand as a tourist/digital nomad (so on a Tourist Visa).

My planning looks something like this:

Quit job: End of March

Planning to stay in Thailand: April, May & June

Outside Thailand: July-Sep

Back to Thailand: Oct - Dec

Outside Thailand: Jan-Feb

Back to Thailand: March-April

Some questions I have about this:

-When my job ends (end of this month) do I have to leave the country to get my Tourist Visa or can I arrange this at an immigration office inside Thailand?

-In case I have to leave the country to do this, which country would be easier/saver: Cambodia or Lao? (I prefer one of these two).

-I assume it would be saver to get a proper tourist visa right? (instead of 30-day exemption stamps)?

-Does it make any difference to go in/out by land or flight? Is one of the 2 saver?

Thanks for helping me with this!

Very much appreciated!!

You cannot apply for a tourist visa while in the country. You will have to leave.

Vientiane Laos would be good.

Tourist visa would be the best.

It is about the same by land or air.

Thanks ubonjoe for this quick response!

Hope I can bother you with some last questions:

-Do you know in how many days I have to leave the country after termination of the contract? (same day or one week or so?)

-Is Cambodia really riskier than Lao (my wife prefers to visit Phnom Penh, but I have heard that the Thai Embassy is stricter in Cambodia than in Lao, what do you think)

-Is there a certain amount of time that I have to be outside Thailand before I can come back in? (between Work Visa & Tourist Visa?)

-So in Lao I can apply for the 2-month Tourist Visa and then get a 1 month extension here in Thailand right?

THanks a lot!

You have to leave on the date your extension ends or you can apply for an extension, pay 1900 baht and be granted 7 days to leave the country when the application is denied. You can also go to immigration a few days before the date on a termination letter from your employer and immigration will post date the cancellation to that date.

Not riskier in Phnom Penh but you will need tickets out of the country and proof of 1000 baht in a bank.

There no amount of time you have to be out of the country.

You can get a 30 day extension of the 60 day entry you will get from the tourist visa.
