We all know there’s plenty of tourists heading TO Thailand this year. But what about the traffic in the other direction?

Outbound travel from Thailand is set to hit 10 million this year, nearly a third of the inbound tourist traffic this year, according to the first comprehensive market research report on what is expected to be the “the next big thing” in Asia-Pacific tourism.

The report is designed to help destinations worldwide better understand the drivers of this promising source of business, according to TTR Weekly.

One can only hope they learn something while they are away from Planet Thailand.

Probably only just realised that there are cleaner beaches, cheaper drinks, longer opening hours, fresher air and helpful officials in other countries. With the baht so strong they are off to Aussie.

I just came back from the gold coast exchanging thai baht and it was brutal enough let alone staying in a hotel in Sydney or Melbourne. You havnt a clue what your talking about. Go price a room in Thailand and then in oz ( be seated if you faint easy). drinks are off the planet in those longer opening hours you speak of and officials will gladly take $200 from you for speeding 15kph over the limit in your rent a car but Taxis will take 1000 baht for 5 kilometers and don't get me started on a meal for 2 in a half decent restaurant with a bottle of red ...about $150 and UP from there !!!

mostly poor bastards screwed by brexit :clap2:

Thats funny. Now thailand is booming in reverse.

only in thailand could this be news worthy.

Leaving especially during Songkran.

Assuming that the counting takes place at all border crossings an alternative head line could be:

Exodus of migrant workers starts early this year

Vietnam for one. They are going there in droves. Not so far away and better bang for their baht than when staying at home.

Read the actual report as linked in the article.............
"Ease of accessibility will become a major determinant of future destination choice. Japan, which eliminated visas for Thais in 2013, has become the fastest growing destination for Thai travellers. Korea and Taiwan have followed the Japanese lead, and Russia is next. "

"The report also blasts the visa application processes for Europe, the UK, North America, Australia and New Zealand as being “insulting, offensive and expensive.” "

Actually, it's newsworthy everywhere, especially good reading for those expats who claimed for years that Thailand is a dangerous place to invest in and you should never bring money here or you'll lose it.
