Tourist police warn Thai women: Your white handsome man is really a dark skinned scammer!

The Thai tourist police have produced Facebook posted warning for Thai women about Romance Scams.

One of the frames shows a cartoon white man who they say is handsome and rich.

But towards the end the police say that he is more than likely dark skinned and after your money.

The advice says that Thai women in middle age and middle class are the most likely targets of the scammers. They say they want marriage and claim to have sent gifts that need payments to be made so the presents can be released by customs.

The advice says: ":Don't be a victim - don't believe sweet words".

Don't send personal details such as documents to them.

The advice comes under the banner of the tourist police with the slogan: Smart Tourist Police...Your First Friend.

What does this have to do with the tourist Police or tourists? The romance scams are not done by tourists or against tourists. Nothing to do with tourists or the branch of the police that deals with tourists, tourist police dont investigate or prosecute these crimes. If police are trying to get a message out to Thai people why put it on the tourist police facebook page, thats not visited by Thais.

More accurate, the dark skinned teerak is the scammer.

Surely just a production delay, will be released next week.

A dark skinned man posing as an honest, serious, white skinned man looking for love and whose only intentions are to sweet talk money out of the pockets/bank accounts of lonely, gullible women.

Don't be offended by the terms/words they use to describe the useless, lazy scammig scum. Fact is, a lot of these internet scammers are "dark shinned" scamming scum. It's like saying "a lot of the sex tourists who come here are white skinned middle aged and elderly men".

seems quite the stretch that the tourist police get involved in this; thought their primary missive was to 'protect' tourists; here they are protecting thais

On the contrary, the deputy commissioner of the tourist police IS investigating these crimes. The remit of the tourist police is far reaching.

Racism does not exist in Buddhism.......except in Thailand

Silly you... they are there to negotiate the deal between the Thais and the bewildered tourist; not to protect and serve.  Very handy!

Really odd post this one.... I think there is far more scamming by charming dark young ladies scamming naive white men out of money.... Perhaps the Tourist police should do another Ad to balance their views. :)

Probably those scammers from Ghana....

They're obviously referring to Nigerian scammers online.

Yes.  A family member had been communicating with "a US Soldier on leave" coming to Bangkok to meet her and her two children and take them away to a life of luxury in the USA with him.  Somehow,  when he claimed out of the blue, to be stuck at Phuket Immigration, urgently needing  her to deposit money into an account so he could get to Bangkok to be with her, she figured out that he was a con artist still residing in Ghana.  There is a lot of this about!!!   She never sent the money and so had a lucky escape.  Although the Thai police message may have missed something in the translation I feel it is this type of "romantic farang" they refer to.  Not you or me.  Well, not me, at least, anyway!!!!    Our Bar Surfer correspondents in Pattaya are not the romantic Falang the RTP are warning the girlies about.  It is the unverified internet romancer that they are telling you to be careful of.   If she is able to actually meet the  "Hansum Man" personally here and have a beer with him, then he is obviously not some suntanned trickster still in West Africa needing her urgently to send him money.

Nigerian scammers thrive on lonely Aussie ladies. And a few men get caught too, in their net. But the stupidity of their actions, driven by their desire for love , is unbelievable.

As for Thais, less money for the scammers,  but ladies here far more gullible, esp if the bf is perceived as white, rich and handsome.

Again , so stupid to believe stories when a video call culls it.

its all trading!

don't be so sure *about less money. there are plenty of middle aged women with lots of money here, even by western standards, getting tricked by these leaches. and it's a global thing. they're making money all over Europe but 90% are Nigerians. that's just fact

The white tourists are after your money? Where is this? Which country?  I always thought about the opposite! In fact nobody has seen a mouse trap running after a mouse!

It's a huge problem with african nationals running this scam on thai dating sites, they say that they have sent diamonds to her but they are stuck in customs so the girl needs to send the duty and fees to clear customs, it's one of the ways all those african footballers support themselves here

555 Beat me to it :cheesy:

The heading should really be:

"Tourist police warn Tourists: Your Thai Woman is really a snake-skinned scammer!" :whistling:

If a Thai woman can’t tell the difference between a white guy and a Nigerian scammer then she needs her eyes checked.
