BANGKOK, 15th March 2018 (NNT) - A police reform committee is set to hand over non-police duties to governmental agencies to allow the police to work more effectively on crime suppression and prevention.

Police Reform Committee Spokesman Manij Suksomjit said today that the committee had decided to pass on roles that are not directly related to police affairs to 28 state organizations as many police agencies are still understaffed. It is said that 7,000 more police officers are needed to tackle a shortage of personnel.

Duties to be transferred include traffic management, economic crime prevention, and land transportation.

He added that the move would enable the police to perform duties that are more relevant to their profession. The committee has however, asked the government to oversee the transfer to ensure a smooth transition.

This will involve a mind boggling amount of work in unraveling all the existing "Distribution Lists" and re-creating them into a whole new order for both the new look RTP and the new agencies. There will need to be particular emphasis on ensuring those at the top continue to receive their usual apportionment without loss.

For this challenging task they could do well to use the extensive skills of those "Distribution List" wizards who masterminded the embezzlement of money from the the destitute and disabled.

The "schools" contract alone has got to be huge.

They are soooo busy policing the roads? What a joke Thailand police are.. In general.

So there will be all kinds of new police?  Like road block check police??  Will the new ones actually stop vehicles breaking the law?

I wonder how many of those economic crimes will get lost in the change over ???

Rolling my eyes and facepalming once again.

Not happy to hear about "transportation management" being handed over to non-experts. Say what you will, the BiB have it down to a science, and as long as you avoid the obvious check-points, keep your insurance up to date, and DON'T drink and drive, you're OK. Putting newbies on the street will create some serious speed bumps (see what I did there?).
