we have found out during the past 4 years that P wants to take us back, we just didn't realize how far back

The la-la land kid strikes again. So he wants people wearing period costume, does not mean all the fit women going topless, like they used to do.

  • A hundred years from now many Thai ladies will look back nostalgically to the tiny cut off jeans so popular in Thailands these days.

As always in Thailand - all about image, sham appearance, externalities  - nothing about inner value, integrity, competency and moral worth. Heaven forfend!

Thainess takes his toll.

There's no doubt that he looks freakin' stupid. I couldn't find my marriage photos, if I do, I'll post them to give you guys a good laugh....

mine are in storage except one at my in laws house and one in ours. they aren't too bad as don't show the cheesiness too much and are above waist so no silly sinbad trousers on show. i would never show my english mates the ones in storage. not a chance in hell. might even burn them on the quiet

Yes! Doesn't it just show where this 'leader's' mind is  - hundreds of years back in feudalistic times  - which is where he is dragging Thailand with every day that passes.

Good idea definitely! This is most welcomed! Japanese are proud of their traditions why not Thais???

I strongly believe the man's mental health is deteriorating. Nearing time to call in the men in the traditional white coat costumes.

Would any leader in the world seriously propose that government members and civil servants dress up like medieval village idiots while ignoring the plight of the poor and destitute and all the other social failings of his/her country?

Thailand it seems has one such leader.

Is that a bad thing?  It'll raise the average IQ on the roads!

LOL> it could lower the average IQ on the roads - with only motorcycles left.

Could not agree with you more, Cadbury. In fact, you may have seen some relatively recent posts of mine where I have mooted the exact same possibility.

At the very least, this guy is in the grip of delusional megalomania. The psychical disturbance may even go much deeper than that (I jest, of course - ahem ) ...!

The Frog Whisperer has really lost the plot.

How about period costumes in illegal motorcycle racing on Friday Night?

I do, I wear my sarong everywhere.

Is the 'Watchman' wearing an expensive period watch with his costume?

Yes, he has a 6 million baht sundial.

Can people stop saying culture and start using the correct term which is "History!" Whats past is past i say.

Y'alllook stupid. The TV depiction of events and life are way back when is complete rubbish. As far as i can tell historically there was less cloths and less teeth not to mention life span is increased and im pretty sure there werent a lot of fancy watches around just to name a few differences.

Nope just a small boy playing his own silly games..and assuming everyone else wants to play too.

No...It's nationalism

Why are the majority of TV posters so negative towards a countries culture (in this case Thailand), I think it is admirable to preserve the national culture to some extent. nobody is harmed by this and it has proven to raise nationalism to a reasonable level where local people are proud to be Thai.

It has always been a suggestion, and people can choose to follow this or not. How many countries have lost their grounds to "overseas" cultures and norms.

IMO it's not what visitors think about someones culture but the people who are locals or residents.

The whole rebirth of national costumes is not a Junta initiated project, but exists already for decades.

They act as if they're stupid, might as well look the part.

Lets go living in the past.......Jethro Tull , new anthem for Thailand.

Geez..  Really?  "Somewhat recently" or many, many decades ago?

There is a big difference between being proud of your country and being ultra-nationalistic...

The costumes shown in the OP are for the 'amart', the elite and the wealthy.....if real silk (and it probably is....since they can afford it) it will cost up to 100k.......

Just a way to show that they are part of the untouchables and above the simple peasant......This not to promote Thai culture, but is only for domestic consumption.....:coffee1:

It's real silk and the majority of Thais buy cheap Indian, but often fake silk. And even people from Isaan buy this cheap crap. But most farmers produce a high quality silk, they do the whole process from feeding the silk worms to cooking them, then making the strings, coloring them, and then the waving part. In the end they become a very tasty and healthy meal. Also called the Viagra from Isaan.........:shock1:

It takes forever to produce one meter of it, my mom in law does that and i bought some very nice pieces from her went to a tailor shop and got some nice shirts, jackets, etc..for almost nothing.

100 K is a bit much for such a dress, but it's possible. Of course does Prayuth get all for free, because they love him so much!!! 555555555555

The dumber the better they do not make problems.  A bit of simmering resentment over the last few months. Lets cover it up with going back to the past.. Such a glorious time for Thailand.  Oh and..... "We have never been conquered by any country, we are the only one in Asia".  Also the one going backwards the fastest..

Why don’t they have a slobbering emote?

Maybe change the name of Thailand to --
