BANGKOK, 2nd April 2018 (NNT) – The commander of the Royal Thai Navy has ordered all relevant agencies to work to their utmost to prepare for an inspection by the European Union set to take place on April 4 and has asked members of the fishing industry to heed any suggestions for change.

Royal Thai Navy Commander Adm Naris Prathumsuwan, as head of the Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing Resolution Center, has issued policy to the nation’s Port In – Port Out (PIPO) Centers and its three Command Centers for Combating Illegal Fishing.

PIPO heads have been asked to accept further instructions as there is to be an adjustment to the structure of their operations to increase convenience for fishers.

They are also being told to be more stringent in their inspections of docking boats and to be more efficient in their efforts. The navy commander has reminded all that resolving IUU fishing is the key to making the Thai fishing industry sustainable and acceptable to the international community.

Adm Naris has nonetheless confirmed that his agencies are ready for an EU inspection on April 4 as they have worked towards sustainability and the best interests of the nation since beginning the concentrated effort.

On complaints by anglers that stringent controls have excessively impeded their fishing activities, Adm Naris said strict enforcement of rules has already resulted in an increase in the number of marine creatures, asking that fishers cooperate with authorities during this transitional period.

He proclaimed that his center and the government have shown over the past three years that it is determined to elevate Thailand’s fisheries sector to sustainability, a goal that includes dealing with labor issues in the industry and ensuring human rights are observed.

What's the airforce in charge of? The flying pork sector?

And when they find a huge stock of illegal fishnets the inspectors will learn, they are just stockings of the cadets which like to wear them for Songkran celebrations.

They would be, if the pigs could get up enough speed to get off the runway.

No, the poultry sector of course...

Therefore chicken flue is impossible in Thailand... ( they only know: "fly, flew flown")

Ah, chickens AKA poultry in motion.

The EU is alreaddy warning the Thai fishery industry for many years.

In 1995 a Thai fish cannery already complained to me, several of their competitors used dynamite to chase the fish out of their Coral hidings.

Environment protection ... in Asia.... forget it.

They have changed quite a lot in the last 2 years.

You can only laugh

Well if you are to be punished by the EU or USA, then you will have too.

Basically: hide all evidences :cheesy:

so that is what the submarines are for

Tighten down the hatches and pretend we always do it this way... :cheesy:

Do they think the EU inspectors were born yesterday...

The panic sets in, and the lies are coordinated

Agree. Very significant changes. Lots of boats bought back by the government. inspections. people registered.

Came across this little video the other dayThe Battle for an IUU-Free Thailand which I though had some interesting bits in. Always wondered what the inside of some of those factories looked like.
