Social Security benefits cover emergency treatments at all hospitals: SSO

BANGKOK, 3 April 2018 (NNT) – People entitled to Social Security benefits can receive emergency treatments at any hospital during the upcoming Songkran festival.

Social Security Office (SSO) Secretary-General Suradej Waleeittikul said those covered by Social Security benefits, including enrolled migrant workers, can receive treatments at any public hospital during the Songkran holiday without having to pay for medical expenses in advance.

Treatments in some public hospitals may require eligible patients to make payments in advance and retrospectively claim the expenses with the SSO.

Patients with life-threatening emergency conditions can receive treatments at any nearby hospital as their cases will be eligible under the Universal Coverage for Emergency Patients (UCEP) scheme which guarantees no advance payment of any medical expenses during the first 72 hours.

The SSO will notify all hospitals to comply with such regulations. The general public can call Hotline 1506 around the clock for more information.
