CityNews – The highway police of Chiang Mai have started to promote a ‘no drowsy driving’ campaign for the upcoming Songkran Festival next week in a bid to help reduce road accidents during the ‘seven dangerous days’.

A large event filled Tha Pae Gate yesterday (April 4th) with highway police cars filling up the square and a large stage erected to host the official start to the Highway Police’s campaign where deputy chief Police Major General Chat Sukkaewnarong opened the ceremony.

Deputy chief Pol Colonel Ekkarat Limsangkat, said on stage that the highway police are always prepared to take care of all citizens during the important holidays. If anyone has any problems, they can call 1193 or add Line ID @highway1193 for travel and road information.

While Deputy chief Pol Colonel Ekkarat's makes his enforced audience of seven drowsy with his monologue a bus driver in Lampang goes to sleep at the wheel killing the hostess and injuring eleven.

At least someone made some money (less kickbacks) out of the huge sign and the flowers and light set-up. While presumably the Brands chicken essence people had to pay the police for their advertising on the signboard.

Seems to have been a good "fund raiser" night for the police.
