Hillary Clinton: Brexit must not undermine peace in Northern Ireland

Hillary Clinton: Brexit must not undermine peace in Northern Ireland

Former US secretary of state sounds alarm over hard border risk to Good Friday agreement

Don’t let Brexit undermine Ireland’s peace, writes Hillary Clinton

Dan Roberts and Henry McDonald

Hillary Clinton has dramatically intervened in the dispute over Brexit to warn that the hand of history will be “heavy and unforgiving” if a hard border is allowed to undermine peace in Northern Ireland.

Marking the 20th anniversary of the Good Friday agreement with her first newspaper opinion piece since losing the US election, the former secretary of state becomes the most senior non-European yet to sound the alarm.

Failure to find a post-Brexit solution that avoids new frontier controls when the UK leaves the EU risks breaching the terms of a wider Irish peace deal that was struck with considerable US support.

"Hillary Clinton has dramatically intervened in the dispute over Brexit" Not really, she just has an opinion and nobody cares.

  • You lost to Trump. A normal person would crawl under a rock after that. Show some humility and fade away.

Humility is not in her vocabulary.

I suppose the British sticking their noses into the business of the Irish is OK then.

Clinton won the popular vote.

I always find it interesting that no one seems to comment that the recent Republican presidential candidates stay in politics but the recent Democratic presidential candidates mostly remove themselves from politics. Heaven forbid that Hillary have any opinion now!

Hillary: Went hiking and wrote a book

Romney: Running for Utah Senator

McCain: Current Senator in Arizona

Gore: Climate change activist

Thinking of her Irish roots no doubt.

Hilary who?

Another multi-millionaire globalist trying to pretend the Irish border issue will be difficult to resolve, in an effort to influence a Brexit reversal.

Why would someone who lost a presidential election to Donald Trump think their opinion was valued? She must have Blair syndrome.

True, she did win the popular vote, but she lost in the electoral college.  And, since winning the electoral college is the object of the game, then any competent politician and her/his staff should plan and focus their campaign on winning those “swing states” to gain the majority of electoral votes.  It’s no secret that this is how the game is played.  HRC failed to do so.

The fact that she won the popular vote only further proves how much she blew it.  She could get the votes she needed, but focused her campaign on winning bigger in the “blue states” instead of those states that Trump barely won that gave him the electoral college win.

Thus, an experienced politician, who did not know how to play American presidential politics, lost to a reality TV star and was thus humiliated.  If there is an afterlife, Thomas E. Dewey (1948) must be relieved to know that he is no longer the loser in the biggest upset in modern American presidential election history.

She is absolutely right. There was the well known Good Friday Agreement which gave peace in NI and which is neglected by T.May, or already broken.

Until now May didn't present anything how the border will be between NI and the Republic.

If there is a hard border I would not guarantee anything.

Also this border will be the border between EU and UK, which would give NI a special status.

This could - and why not - implement the Scots doing same, a free trade agreement without borders with EU. Or even vote for staying in EU, which is the end of the "empire"dreams.

May spoils everything. Listen to Sinn Fein and Tony Blair and Mrs Clinton, and all EU members.

Only they ain't. Northern Ireland is part of the UK.

Without British business, trade, and help during the financial crisis, Ireland would be down the pan. And the Irish politicians know that.

A major problem that is to do with Northern Ireland is a problem that England has got to solve. And England has no choice but to get involved.

That's England's situation. What about Hillary Clinton ? We don't need any outsiders getting involved, they just simply make the situation more complicated. This issue will only be solved by us, it's our problem, it won't be solved by a bunch of outsiders.

Some us perhaps remember "The sound of music" It was a very successful show.

And that is the woman many of you wanted for President?

Why is anyone bothering to listen to her or even interview her.  She belongs in Prison.

Compared to "trump" most definitely. Nobody ever said she was the perfect candidate. Why are people harping about this now? She did lose, the last election is over, she won't be running again for anything much less president, but as a former first lady, U.S. Senator, Secretary of State, and CITIZEN she has every right in the world to continue to voice her political opinions.

Clinton.

One of the most famous women in world history.

She won the popular vote for the presidency of the most powerful country in the world in a nation that has yet to elect any woman.

She'll never be president, but she has a historic legacy that will be remembered.
