Police and road authorities ready to accommodate holidaymakers

 

 

BANGKOK, 10th April 2018 (NNT)-Police have coordinated with various organizations to ensure safety for holidaymakers and their homes. 

The Metro Police Bureau, has launched a civil-state home safety program for vactioners in Bangkok to protect their homes while they are away. 

Deputy National Police Chief Pol Gen Chalermkiat Srivorakhan traveled to Suthisarn road on Monday to observe the implementation of the program which is being carried out in a traditional way, with the addition of a sense of fun. 

The deputy chief also visited the home of a famous Youtuber, Bie the Ska, who joined the program, to promote the scheme. Participants are required to install a red mailbox which is provided, on an outside wall of their house. On its surface the mailbox carries a QR code, which enables the downloading of a Police I Lert You application into the homeowner's phone. 

Both the QR code and the mobile application will allow home owners and police officers to stay in touch during the long holiday period. The Police I Lert You application has already been downloaded more than 100,000 times since it was launched. 

Meanwhile, the Department of Probation has jointly launched a road safety campaign with the Don’t Drive Drunk Foundation, the Royal Thai Police and the Metro Police Bureau. 

Those already on probation for driving misdemeanors will be asked to help the police assist other drivers during their journeys. Employees at the Department of Probation have also been told not to break any traffic laws or risk facing serious legal consequences. 

In addition to road safety, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and fire stations in Bangkok, are to be on standby around the clock during the Songkran holiday period to prevent fire-related accidents. 

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith released a road-safety mobile unit to urge drivers to drive slowly and turn the headlights on throughout the Songkran Festival in an effort to curb road accidents. The mobile unit will also be deployed in 77 provinces across the country during this period. 

To ease traffic congestion, Motorway Number 7 and Number 9 will be open free of charge to divert commuters away from other major roads. A team of mechanics will also be on standby to provide rapid assistance to any vehicle whenever needed. 

Any current construction on roads between Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima and between Bangkok and Kanchanaburi will be temporarily suspended starting from today to ensure the traffic flows smoothly during the holidays.
