PM says proactive strategies will help develop moral society

Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont pointed out that proactive strategies have to be developed in order to create a moral society in the era of globalization.

Gen. Surayud delivered a speech about a moral society at the 2nd National Moral Marketplace and Assembly today (Jan 26). He stated that in order to create morality, nothing would be better than applying Lord Buddha’s teachings seriously and concretely. He also referred to His Majesty the King’s four moral principles, composing of truth, dharma, patience, and generosity. He said if these principles can be fostered in the hearts of people, the society would be peaceful and happy. However, he said the fostering process has to start with oneself first, to strengthen the moral foundation. Accordingly, the principles of morality can be advanced to the society and the country.

Prime Minister Surayud however admitted that in the era of globalization where people have to compete with one another, people have become more materialistic and profit-oriented. The development of a moral society has then become much more complicated.

Therefore, a firm standpoint is crucial, and strategies have to be more hands-on. He said the development of morality should start in families and communities, and people have to hold fast to their professions.

He believes the development will then spread to the society in the end.
