Courtney Brooks Suvati Jaiyshrie, 28, celebrated her Sadangu late in life. The Hindu coming-of-age ceremony is marked by Indian-Malaysian families when their daughters begin menses. Jaiyshrie had missed out on the ritual during her childhood because she was assigned male at birth.
