JACKSJM
I have a Non-Immigrant O-A (retirement) Visa, with the remark, "Employment Prohibited". I want to understand how this is legally interpreted. I'm certain that I cannot do any job that a Thai could do for money. However, I'm wondering if "Employment Prohibited" extends to volunteer work, that a Thai citizen could potentially do for profit? Thanks in advance for the feedback.
johng
You still need a work permit for volunteer work...just enjoy your retirement.
ubonjoe
You can get involved in some kinds of volunteer work. An example would be beach cleanups and etc. But it could not be on a regular work schedule with a organization.

You can do jobs that a Thai can do. There aren't many jobs being done by foreigners that couldn't be done by a Thai. There is however a strict list of jobs/work you can't do that are protected for the Thai work force. Helping out occasionally in the community is no problem. Working voluntarily for an official organisation requires a work permit and the appropriate visa.
