Ahead of the Songkran holiday, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Ayutthaya office invited the public to water fight with elephants against the backdrop of the Unesco World Heritage Ayutthaya Historical Park.

Pachyderms from the Ayutthaya Elephant Palace and Royal Kraal were brought to show off their water-fighting skills and to demonstrate the fun that would take place this weekend in the former Thai capital.

To attend the festival along the road in front of the TAT office from 10am to 4.30pm on three days, people are also encouraged to wear Thai traditional clothing and partake in cultural activities such as pouring water over the Buddha images, building sand pagoda and watching traditional Thai dances.

Its all fun and games until one of the elephants gets out of control and kills a few people. Still its probably safer close to those elephants as on the roads.

Was the vote by the elephants on joining in or not joining carried by the majority, of the elephants?

Just askin'

My concern is more at the abuse that lies behind the training of elephants.

Are they also going to dress them up in skimpy bikinis like those oranguntans at Phuket zoo?

What could possibly go wrong...

Let the Elephants go and be where they want to be. They are a national symbol <deleted>. What are you all thinking?

Putting their trunks on?
