BANGKOK, 13th April 2018 (NNT) – The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has joined forces with the Thanachart Bank to unveil 10 video clips warning against call center scams.

Director of the DSI, Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang joined Thanachart Bank CEO and President Somjet Moosirilert in announcing the “Keep Up with Scams, Keep Your Finances Safe” project, which is seeking to promote awareness and caution against call center scams through the use of 10 video clips to be available online.

Among the lessons the clips will be teaching are that while some call centers may contact victims using a phone number starting off with the appropriate 02, they are actually using an internet based system.

Most of the centers seek to have victims open an account with the promise of a 500-1,000 baht pay off. Those accounts are then used for nefarious purposes which incur legal penalties for the victim. They will also note that billions of baht are lost annually to such scams with much of the money never recovered.

The DSI is now coordinating with the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) to track and freeze the accounts used by scammers.

Members of the public can view the videos on Thanachart Bank’s Youtube channel, on the bank’s Facebook page or at www.dsi.go.th.
