Don Muang and Suvarnabhumi Airports operating smoothly despite holiday throng

BANGKOK, 13 April 2018 (NNT) – Don Muang Airport has reported smooth operations despite a high volume of passengers for the Songkran holiday, pointing out proper preparations to handle the crowds.

Despite a large volume of people arriving at Don Muang Airport’s departure terminal, most have been met with prompt assistance and service from beefed up airline staff who recommend that those not in need of help checking their baggage use provided automatic check-in kiosks.

Deputy Minister for Transport Pailin Chuchotetaworn has affirmed a full deck of immigration officials has been dispatched to the airport to facilitate outbound travelers.

To address complaints over overpriced food, both Don Muang and Suvarnabhumi airports have provided passengers with pamphlets indicating where they can find differently priced foods.

Police have been sent to oversee traffic on Vipavadee Rangsit road heading into Don Muang Airport due to the closure of its entry bridge resulting in added congestion. Travelers are still recommended to travel to the airport 2-3 hours ahead of schedule to avoid any issues.

At Suvarnabhumi Airport meanwhile, impressions from travelers have been majority positive in spite of the large amount of people making their way through the terminal to their various destinations. Most noted their own pre-bookings as helping to facilitate departure.

The airport has organized free parking in Zone C of its parking building from 5PM today to April 17. Shuttle buses are available from the area to the main terminal.

Up to 193,400 people are estimated to make their way through Suvarnabhumi Airport daily between April 11 and 17, 10.4 percent more than last year. Flights have been increased to 1,040 per day, up by 11.2 percent, to speed up the processing of travelers.

Now then, what is the name of the airport?

Don Mueang or Don Muang?

Operating smoothly  ????  so where is Thai Smile ??   just when needed are not operating out of BKK  or Udon.

A disgusting service as well as having the monopoly of the only domestic airline to operate out of BKK. they decide to cancel all flights during Songkran.   No person wanting to get an international connection cannot.   Everyone are having to go to Don Muang and then transfer.

It's about time Other Airlines like Air Asia get permission to fly into BKK from domestic airports.  Thai Smile should either fulfill their obligations or be made to operate only from Don Muang the same as others.  This is totally unfair and needs looking into.   EITHER ALL OR NOTHING.

A light fingered baggage handlers dream!

As my late father used to say when we were children (he came from Manchester - Oldham): "It's not 'fur' - no, it's rabbits wool!"

Actually I quite sympathise with you Ginjag, domestic air travel here seems rarely to be concerned with what the customer may want...

Does this mean no one has urinated on the floor yet while waiting to clear immigration?

If some budget airlines were  to have choices to use BKK airport to connect to International routes maybe it could relieve traffic at D.Muang--and contending with Mafia transport to BKK.

Absolute breeze at BKK today. No lines at all at both security and passport control.

Just another example of transcript confusion.

Following the "official" rules it would be Don Mueang.

But expect 50:50 (as in this thread ).

Hansnl  Maybe the airport is like many other places, and has two or three spellings

like Onnit road, and several other places.

Bangkok airways fly domestic from swampy. I think they run a great service & hope they expand further.

You should apply for some prize in the Fake News category.

According to their website, Thai Smile is operating regularly. If you experienced a cancellation I don't know, but it doesn't mean that all flights during Songkran are cancelled as you say. I just checked a flight at random on Flightaware, they flew regularly today from CNX to BKK.

Thai Smile doesn't have a monopoly on domestic flights to/from BKK. Thai International, Bangkok Airways, ThaiVietJet all operate domestic out of BKK, maybe there are others I don't know.

AirAsia and any other airline is perfectly allowed to use BKK if they choose to - provided slots are available. If they opted for DMK is mainly because of the lower cost, and in the case of AirAsia I suspect also because of the huge number of flights they want to operate. They made DMK their hub in Bangkok,  complain to them.
