A suspected Russian robber arrested at Suvarnabhumi airport

russian2.jpg

A Russian man was arrested today (Apr 14) at Suvarnabhumi international airport after Chon Buri police and immigration officials have launched a manhunt for a Russian who allegedly robbed almost one million baht in cash from a money exchange booth opposite the Ambassador Jom Thien hotel in Sattahip district of Chon Buri on Saturday morning.

From footage of the CCTV system installed at the money exchange kiosk, police identified the suspected lone robber as Nikolay Rybalov, 32

Police said that the suspect arrived at the kiosk, pretending to exchange money with the female staff, 30-year old Ms Sunee Kaewyu. Then he started punching at her until she went unconscious in the kiosk and grabbed the money bag, containing almost one million baht, before speeding off in his motorcycle.

i think the fact he beat her unconscious in a premeditated robbery makes it's incomparable to the RTAF officer slapping a woman in a fit of rage don't you?

Pretty despicable thing to do.

I see a Thai RTAF officer was fined 2,000 Baht for slapping a woman. Wonder what this guy's fine will be for punching her unconscious, given he's not Thai?

I wonder if they've recovered the cash? I'll follow this story with interest.

Leaving a million baht accumulate unsecured in a kiosk with one woman

person to guard it in theses days of lawlessness, is a crime by itself....

In that case, what's the difference between a million baht and a thousand baht?   The tragedy was the physical harm suffered by the woman.  $30,000 doesn't seem like a lot for a currency exchange kiosk to operate for a day, and I've seen hundreds of them around the world with just one cashier.

That's like suggesting people reduce their odds of being mugged by carrying less cash.  It doesn't reduce the odds of being mugged.  It only reduces the amount the mugger gets away with.  In fact, I'd prefer to have more cash (in small bills) if I get mugged- to distract the mugger from beating the crap out of me.  You can't count money and kick someone in the head at the same time.

It was a despicable beating in the video i saw on Facebook yesterday, what a cowardly piece of shit!! not only did he punch her 10 times initially, after he grabbed the bag (she was already knocked out) he punched her about another 3 or 4 times!!

Do the tattoos match?  I am surprised that they did not show the man's tattoos as they are visible in the  beating video. I am however, surprised at how quickly they  identified him. Was he under surveillance, or was it CCTV info?

Whatever the case, if this is the  culprit he deserves the lengthy  sentence he will get. Unfortunately, I fear that the other inmates will  be at risk from this psychopath.

My guess is he timed this for when she was opening up, which might explain how he got access and why a large sum of money (the day's float I would imagine) was unsecured in a backpack.

"and disappeared with her backpack, which was 600 thousand Thai baht"

Per Russia News Today https://chelorg.com/2018/04/14/in-thailand-detained-a-russian-citizen/

Also of interest, and from the same source:

"an outer camera caught the license plate of the motorcycle"

"It turned out that the bike was rented in December of last year in the name of the Russian who rented an expensive Villa in Pattaya and lived there with his family. The Russians were also the long-term lease another sports bike and the car, said a police source."

"Wife and five year old daughter of a Russian citizen was also arrested. The suspect’s wife may be charged as an accomplice."

"Things that were with him (at Suvarnabhumi), were found the money .. and the backpack"

And last but not least, just to emphasise the brutality of this attack:

"the cashier of the exchange office is currently in the intensive care unit of a hospital Pattaya"

I counted 13 hits on the poor girl whilst she was on the floor, what a terrible beating to administer to a defenseless person.I hope he goes away for a long time.

I wonder what a background check on his criminal record might unearth, and would it not be a good idea to make it mandatory for people applying for extensions of stay/ non-tourist visas to have to provide these?

Look this was now a very good reason for a manhunt to find this Russian scumbag but for a foreigner couple who maybe had sex on a seawage pipe isn't.

Yes his violence can be considered murder attempt he wont be out soon as locals usually are.

Calling such a lowlife an animal is an insult to the animals.

Looks almost personal if you hit somebody that many times..

Looking at this video almost made me sick, what a despicable individual.

Even though he looks like a strong guy once in jail I do not think he would be a match for all the Thai inmates.

Unfortunately Thailand is not a safe heaven anymore.

They will have to resort to the usual precautions, armored vehicles, armed guards etc. which will of course raise cost.

In the good old times the bank clerks had stacks of cash in the drawers of their desk.

Who wishes a situation like in South American or the Philippines?

Colombia: pump gun armed guard at every bank entrance.

Quality Russian tourist needed money for his steroids.

After the trial if their is a trial we will never see or here from him again . He has to be mentally ill to spend the rest of your life in a Thai prison at least in the United States you get three meals and a bed.

Just hope the cashier makes a good recovery. They need to step up security arrangements for carrying cash into these booths far too easy for this gutter grub to follow her as she opened the door. He has obviously watched this before. Pretty smart using his rental bike? Low life hope he gets a good sentence maybe in the Bangkok Hilton

In view of the savagery of this man's attack on a young woman, I personally would have no qualms if the RTP quietly gave him the beating of his life - he deserves nothing less.
