Armed forces members are able to ask for support when moving from one home to another, but they must pay for the use of state-owned vehicles or military staff, Supreme Commander General Thanchaiyan Srisuwan said on Thursday.

He spoke up after a Facebook page released a document showing a military unit has requested one vehicle and six servicemen for the mission of helping a female captain move her belongings from a state-provided house to her own home over a period of two days According to the leaked document, the military unit provides allowances for military personnel.

Thanchaiyan said that there were clear regulations stipulating that the person asking for help must pay for the cost of petrol and other allowances.

“Money we receive is used to maintain the properties of the armed forces,” he said.

Cases of senior soldiers using conscripts for personal interests, rather than the nation’s interests, have been repeatedly reported on social media in recent years.

Last year, the wife of a captain was accused of using conscripts as waiters at her restaurant in Rayong province.

In particular the upper ranks.

Or just hire a moving service.  A two move is a bit much.  In 29 years in Asia, never had trouble finding movers or renting a small truck.

Submarines and field guns need to be paid for not forgetting certain collections.

Ah, but, RHIP.

Neighbour is ex-military and he still gets a conscript to do all the housework.

I don't see a problem with this.  If it is a normal practice, requested in advance, and reimbursed, who cares? Other employers, including in the west, often provide moving expenses and assistance. Military allow passage on military planes if reimbursed. Nothing to see here, in my opinion.

This is really not as big as the police force. Police escort cars for various events (weddings is one big on in thailand), using police to help with personal functions, etc. Heck even if you look on linkedin, there is a handful of folks offering police escorts in thailand!

Corruption is hard to reign in when corruption is the "Soup of the day".

And are the RTP going to follow suit ???

Conscripts are free but petrol isn't.

Perhap helps to buy air-conditioners for the seniors houses.
