Requirements for OA visa extension for child

Featured Replies

I am the legally legitimate father of my son by court order and this year will probably extend my OA visa based on my having a child live with me here.

My son lives with me full time, mother gone. I was under the impression it was 400k Thai baht in the bank on the day that you applied....not the normal three months for retirement. Had a friend apply the other day same thing and they told him the rules have changed and you need the 400k THB in the bank for one month prior to applying. Is this correct?

I am currently on an OA visa extensions previously based on retirement. Is it a simple matter to extend for a child or is it a lot of mucking around?

Any advice appreciated

No.

There has been no change to the criteria. It is still 400K on the day you apply. That said it’s possible a local office has a ‘local rule’.

Same day as you apply, but as always room for local interpretation.

Check with your local friendly IO.

May I ask you guys.... Are there really an option for extension of stay based of "having a child"?? I mean a full year extension of stay????

An extension can be obtained based on being the parent of a Thai child.

A one year  extension of stay based upon being the parent of a Thai is possible. It requires 400k baht in a Thai bank or proof of 40k baht.

There is also one that allows the parent of a foreign child attending school to get a one year extension. It requires 500k baht in a Thai bank for 30 days for the first extension and then 90 days after that.

You must be the ‘legal parent’. Just being named on the birth certificate is not enough. If you aren’t/weren’t married to the child’s mother you need to be confirmed as the legal parent by a court or the local Amphoe.

I have my court order and amphur registration as the legitimate father. That was a whole other head <deleted>
