Yesterday - May 1st - was D-Day in Pattaya when boat operators were all meant to have returned to Bali Hai port after its refurbishment.

Pattaya News reported that while most bus companies and boats were following the authorities' orders to return to the South Pattaya port some had not.

Some were still mooring off the Hard Rock cafe on Beach Road taking passengers to and fro.

They were warned that this was no longer permitted - though it was just a warning. Fines and tough action will only happen after a grace period of five days.

At Bali Hai itself Pattaya News said that traffic was bad at 8 am but had eased somewhat by 8.30 am.

Some 50 military and local authority personnel were on duty to ensure that D-Day went as smoothly as possible.

Operators have been using other areas to pick up and deliver tourists on pleasure trips and visits to Koh Larn since the refurbishments were taking place.

Now this has finished they are all expected to use the port.

This represents everything I like about Thailand....Everyday Thais do understand the meaning of if its not broke dont fix it....It just the people running the show who seem to have a big problem with this concept..

What is this D-day #3 or D-day#4?

First many months ago out of the blue the boats were told to stop picking up on the beach... Chaos ensued at Bali Hi pier...So the boats were told D-day #2 would be in a few more weeks...D-day #2 came but about a week later the navy realized they had to get ready for the international boat shin-dig so the boats were told to forget Bail Hi and go back to picking up on the beach..Now D-day #3 was declared out of the blue again and it looks like #3 was rightfully iqnored so it looks like D-day #4 is on its way...

Does this D-day order apply to Jomtien Beach?  - probably not. This is where the majority of boats are launched from in the first place.

well they have to launch from somewhere...they where already kicked off the land at Bali Hai ( so a big car park could be built)  the boat operators say Bali Hai is not ready.5ae14ef987927_P_20180408_101239(Large).jpg.bea003309abe8e79b7580001058ea49b.jpg5ae2878a61d2e_P_20180117_105138(Large).jpg.594386ac059b48fb88fc7c649eb6423d.jpg5ae2879b3a6a3_P_20180117_105326(Large)(2).jpg.ace1c2e09bbcb572b2e9619ba5a6ff30.jpg5ae14ff3ed1f0_P_20180408_101517(Large).jpg.7d6c7d156522e75ed8e0f5c06135168b.jpg

Looks like a port in the Middle East after a bombing by allied forces.

Yep it's looked like that for a good few years now.

Obviously some people have not been down round Jomtien 2nd road up from Soi Watboon and Chayapruek - there are hundreds of these speed boats parked up there and get taken down to the launch ramp in Jomtien. They then speed off round to Pattaya every morning.... I rented a top floor Condo in View Talay 5 last year and was woken by the drone of the engines as they shot past 200 mtrs out from Dongtan beach....this is since the Army threw them out of Bali Hi.
