Cow feared infected by rabies in Khon Kaen

KHON KAEN, 15th May 2018 (NNT) – Precautions against rabies continue to be taken in Khon Kaen province after a cow was reported to be exhibiting symptoms of the virus in a village where three other cows and buffalos had already died of rabies after being bitten by a local dog.

Authorities have been dispatched to inspect the four year old female cow owned by Somporn Donkor of Puay Noi district. It was reported the cow has been walking in circles and foaming at the mouth. Its owner had to tie to it a tree to keep it from wandering.

Somporn said close to a month prior he had noticed a fresh wound on the cow’s left ear but did not consider it to be dangerous. However, from May 12 onward, the animal began to display odd behavior including aggression and an aversion to food and water as well as sporadically falling over. The owner was advised by village elders to separate the cow from others until a rabies test could be performed.

Three other livestock in the village recently died after displaying similar symptoms and having been bitten by two stray dogs. Villagers shot footage of one of the dogs, depicting it as fatigued and ill. It was later found dead.

Yet still the govt does nothing,it is time to round up every dog without a collar and immunise or kill them, all houses should be required to have pets vaccinated, but of course this would end up with some officials lining their pockets, and nothing done.

A friend of my MiL was bitten by a cat last Wednesday, she died in hospital

yesterday from RABIES. This was in Chok Chai (Korat).

The Government is covering a lot of this up because it looks bad for tourism.
