Hunt on for ten Thais involved in multi-million baht kidnapping of Hong Kong woman

 

 

Police are hunting ten Thais involved in the abduction of a Hong Kong woman. 

 

Some 2 million Yuan or 10 million baht was paid in ransom by the husband and family of the victim referred to as "Jinchai".

 

She arrived at Suvarnabhumi on May 8th and was soon bundled into a van and taken to a hotel in Bangkok where she was held.

 

She was then transferred to a rented house in Pattaya, then taken to Koh Samet before being taken back to Bangkok.

 

Her husband Han - a man of mixed Chinese and Korean ancestry - and his wife's relatives paid the ransom in four installments only for the gang to demand 5 million baht more.

 

Thai police got involved on 18th of May.

 

They found out the names of a Thai woman called Wansikarn and that of four Chinese nationals who were part of the gang. Wansikarn is in custody but the gang of four Chinese have fled abroad.

 

Now police are hunting ten other Thais involved in the kidnapping and extortion.

 

Surachet Hakpal, deputy commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau, said that the cops know the identity of all the suspects. 

 

Sanook did not report on the whereabouts of the victim though she appeared to have been rescued.

Immigration officer said to be involved in kidnapping of tourist

A Thai Immigration Police officer was allegedly involved in the abduction of a 39-year-old woman at Suvarnabhumi Airport on the night of May 6 for a Bt15 million ransom, Tourist Police Bureau deputy chief Pol Maj-General Surachate Hakparn said on Monday.

 

The victim, identified as Jincai Chen, was abducted by five people upon her arrival from Hong Kong but was safely released to a roadside spot in Bang Na district 14 days later. 

 

Four Chinese people, a Thai woman named Wansikan Termthanapat and several other people were involved in the crime, including an unnamed Pol Senior Sergeant Major policeman under the Samut Prakan Immigration Police Office, Surachate said.

 

Police are seeking arrest warrants but the four Chinese suspects – Wenqui Sun, Ming Song, Dongliang Sun and Meiling Kai – had already fled Thailand, Surachate added.

 

The gang demanded three million yuan (Bt15 million) for ransom but the victim’s Korean husband, Han Young Lim, who holds Tanzanian nationality, paid just 1.9 million yuan (Bt10 million). When they failed to release Chen, he filed a police complaint on May 18. 

 

CCTV footage helped police identify the five kidnappers and a further probe found that they had detained the woman at a Bangkok hotel.

 

 They then moved her to a rented house in Pattaya City, then another house on Koh Samet in Rayong and another hotel in Bangkok.

 

At 11pm on May 19, apparently feeling pressure from the investigation, the kidnappers released the victim at a roadside spot on Bang Na-Trat Road before fleeing.The woman contacted her husband and went to testify to police about what happened, Surachate said.

Assuming the woman who was kidnapped is the one circled between two others in the image above then this suggests she was kidnapped from inside the secure area of the airport, airside.

 

That would be a major security violation for the entire airport.

Was the victim part of the plot?

If she was abducted from airside, why did she not kick off?

Not if they arrived on the same flight as the HK woman and an IO was involved.

If she was abducted from airside, why did she not kick off?

They must trick her. Say shes arrested needs answer few questions.

You think maybe they have their mind on the money, sqeeze the gang for some of the ransom, perhaps. Or the family of the lady to get more motivated in the investigation?

They know which rented houses and hotels she was stashed in?

because she was terrified?   because one of the kidnappers evidently was an immigration officer?  i personally don't know the facts, but i see no reason to doubt her story. 

I'm waiting for big joke to turn up with his media crew and pronounce it was an inside job and declare the cats in the bag on this one.now all smile for the cameras please and let's get on with some more crime busting.

They merely found her on Bangna Trat after she was released.  They have then worked backwards to invent ten Thai suspects.

They already arrested several people. And the woman was released so she can verify the story.

As with you, I don't know the facts apart from what has been written; the CCTV image seems to have been taken from air-side but was that where the abduction happened?

 

With the implication that an immigration officer was involved, was that at the airport or elsewhere? If at the airport, possible scenario would be to flash the badge, tell her there was a problem, lead her to a secluded area and throw her in the back of a van to start the adventure.

 

Anyway, whatever did happen, I am glad she was returned safely and hope the police round up every single one of those involved. With what is being reported, they seem to have a decent handle on that.

She must be one of these "high-quality tourists" we keep hearing TAT yammering on about attracting?

The "Super Cop" will find the kidnappers very quick! After he can hunt again for "Bad Farangs"...
