National police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda has ordered a probe into the case of some 200 Loei-based policemen accusing a former provincial police chief of misappropriating Bt229 million from the Loei Provincial Police Savings Cooperative, police spokesman Pol Colonel Krissana Pattanacharoen said.

The alleged fraud reportedly took place during January-July 2017 when 191 police joined the cooperative’s debt management project on the invitation of the then-Loei police chief, who reportedly reneged on what was promised, resulting in the policemen landing in debt which has now doubled and even tripled.

Krissana said the Provincial Police Region 4 had received the complaints from the 191 policemen. A committee has been set up and asked to investigate within 30 days. While approving the panel, Chakthip also urged them to proceed carefully and thoroughly as per the law.

Krissana urged the public to wait for the probe findings before casting aspersions, and promised that even if the accused were a high-ranking officer, he would face serious disciplinary and criminal punishments as many policemen had been affected because of the alleged fraud.

He said they would also probe if the project could be considered a pyramid scheme. If it involved many officials, the police may ask the National Anti-Corruption Committee and the Anti-Money Laundering Office to join the investigation.

Krissana insisted such an alleged wrongdoing was an individual matter that did not represent the Royal Thai Police in any way.

Election coming up.  Gotta look busy on these things.  However very quiet in the wrist watch department.  Let us not allow them to forget that one.

Woaw! Hoah! Do you have any idea of what you are doing, nat. pol. chief Chakthip? When you start lifting the stone covering one of these saving cooperatives, and a few others are exposed, they will all need to see full daylight, and that'd be a huge catastrophy for 'the force', as that's where the most of the RTP's dirty money is stashed in (not the 'monthly expenses account'), so you're going to hurt many tens of thousands, a few hunderd thousand actually, of sensitive feet... Have you forgotten where the loans comes from officers finance the set payment for a promotion with, f.i.? And, top of all, how could you ignore these saving cooperatives are one of the major elements of 'cohesion' in the RTP, in maintaining the 'omerta' among police officers about all the corruption going on.

No doubt you know very well about all of this pol. lt. gen. Chakthip, and you wouldn't have brought this up without a reason, though I can't really see which important enough one this could be to risk a 'domino effect' within these foul smelling saving cooperatives. Not a death wish, I hope!

Why am I not surprised!!
