DPM Wissanu concerned over newly-registered party’s charter amendment plan

 

 

BANGKOK, 30th May 2018 (NNT) - A deputy prime minister in charge of legal affairs has expressed concerns over a newly-registered party’s plan to amend the Constitution if elected to office. 

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said on Monday that a statement by Mr. Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, a founding member of the Future Forward Party, concerning a plan to grant amnesty to those found guilty by order of the National Council for Peace and Order, if his party wins an election and becomes the government, is a permissible plan as it is considered his party’s pledge of policy. 

Mr. Wissanu said that he personally does not have much detail about Mr. Thanathorn’s plan, including the pledge to amend the Constitution, but accepts that it is his right to say so without holding it against the intent of the charter. 

He added that it remains unknown if the amendment will ever take place while he would like to make sure that the person must always take responsibility for his words.

Amendment? He said he was going to rip it up, not adding more pages to it.

As a true servant of the people he should have raised concerns about 4 years ago.

If I were him, I'd be concerned too. But he isn't concerned for anyone else but himself. I guess the thought of being removed from the trough and facing jail would be very concerning.

A gravy train wreck in the offing for the army and the elites.   

Of course they're worried. The only thing keeping these crooks out of jail is the amnesty clause in the constitution.

Another bit of retro-active legislation will soon fix that up. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Why is he concerned? All he tries to stir up problem around is called democratic order.

If there is ever a nasty piece of work in the Thai junta government, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu would have to be it.

I don't actually see anything in the op where he expresses any concerns?

 

He says that it " is a permissible plan " and " accepts that it is his right to say so without holding it against the intent of the charter. " so where exactly does he express his concerns?

No, what a threat. We no longer see a self satisfied NCPO. We see a reactionary regime (with still plenty of clout) grimly hanging on to power. Not just money, but power.

It isn't over by a long way, but the green slime are in trouble. What to do next: Carry on 'discovering' more weapons? Threaten the country with more Third Hands? It's old, it's boring. As if you can even beat a ragtag army of Laotians in a fight.

So what next? Cancel elections and double down on repression? Relax the ban on politics just a little more and open the floodgates of resentment? You are screwed either way...

Oh the former Baboon, almost definitely the former. They don't know anything else, but the one thing they do know is that they must hang on to power!

There are plenty of excuses up their sleeves, funerals, coronations, chair of ASEAN; they all require the sort of "stability and order" that only they can provide.

It will end in a mess...

You aren't wrong about the ending in a mess: They cannot afford to hold off the elections any longer (deaths aside), as their popularity is on the same. Nor can they afford to hold them for the same reason. Let's see what happens...
