Ban on import of Cat & Dogs fm Thailand

Featured Replies

In case anyone here is thinking of sending pets to Malaysia or beyond (it’s a popular staging point for import to Australia). Malaysia currently does not allow pet import from Thailand due to the Rabies outbreak.

If you go to a professional organization that specializes in shipping of animals overseas they will help. I once shipped my Alsatian from the UK to Zambia. Spratts (handling / shipping company) took care of everything. Wasnt cheap but well worth it

The problem is that many countries are refusing to accept any animals for quarantine purposes from Thailand because of the rabies virus that is still current in Thailand.

Malaysia has it's own rabies problem so I imagine they're now doing 'damage limitation'.

There must be some additional politics to the ban.  We are shipping our cat direct from Myanmar to Malaysia (and onto Australia).  Myanmar has many more rabies deaths per year than Thailand but no import issues.
