Government to focus on second chance for convicts

BANGKOK, 4 June 2018 (NNT) - The government continues to focus on a plan to offer a second chance to convicts.

? Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister ACM Prajin Juntong earlier chaired the official opening of a seminar on a second chance for people who have been found guilty of committing crimes.

The seminar was organized after the Department of Corrections reported on the problem of over-crowding at its controlled facilities, which currently house altogether 350,366 inmates; the facilities were designed however, to accommodate up to 122,047 inmates only.

Therefore, all related agencies have been invited to come together to discuss solutions and other measures to address the problem as an alternative to imprisonment.

?One of the suggested measures is the electronic monitoring (EM) system to allow convicts to be temporarily released without needing to post bail.

While the device precents convicts from running away, it can also help address the issue of social inequality due to poverty while enabling them to turn their lives around and learn new professional skills for a future working life after completing their terms.

ACM Prajin stated that the Ministry of Justice and the Department of Corrections will never allow conflicts with flight risks to opt for the EM system, while continuing to find new policies to control the population of inmates.

Total waste of time, I have a  better plan, 3  strikes and death this will also free  up room in the jails which lets face it is really what all this is  about., too many wasters  in society contributing nothing often for their entire lives, just a bane and drain  on society and decent people.

He's got a point though...

Majority of folk, spend their whole lives working and supporting the bone idle or felons !!

Love it whenever there are calls to drug test benefit claimants, in U.K, all hell breaks lose about rights violations.

Yet when I get tested by my employer, that's ok... So I'm a drug free supporter of the drugged up welfare spongers ?

How about releasing them into temples? There's got to be a shortage of monks now.

In my humble opinion, believe Thailand is now seeing the tip of the iceberg regarding the crime fueled'' crystal meth problems''..

Really? Grown Thai men willing to learn a new skill???? Shiite me pants reading this. I teach Thai kids whose minds are supposed to be fresh and sponge-like in their ability to learn new things...

The kids are, to say the least, lazy as proven by the ONET results.

My point is, how does the gvt expect lazy grown men who turned to crime to start learning new life skills...

I thought wealthy Thais were given numerous second chances by kindly police/courts?

Ha ha! However, that's rather a tall order. Is there a minimum height requirement, like the police?

Surely the number of second chances is proportional the balance of the bank account?

EXACTLY the world is  filling up with these waste of oxygen type and Im not the only one sick of working hard to  get where I am in life when  people like this just sit around waiting to steal it from you..............<deleted> em!  They seem to think they are owed  something in life.

You can see a microcosm of Thai life when  you have a family of 10 kids where 3 work hard and the other 7 sponge off them, seen it in the Wifes  family and others I know with big families. Seems to be the way of life in many cases, the few here support the many, always strikes me as odd  they have anything to do with them.

Many just dont like hearing the truth about  this, brush it under that very big rug.

I know a few Thais who work really hard and are great but the vast majority simply arent like that, never seen such a "relaxed"  attitude to everything

Look at why you're throwing your citizens into jail in the first place, then stop doing that!
Chewing kratom - jail

Smoking a spiff - jail

Ingesting yaba - jail
Wrong color on piss test - jail

Criticizing the wrong person - jail

Criticizing the wrong institution - jail

Unable to buy justice - jail

So instead of 'second chances', how about revisiting the definition of 'crime' and stop throwing otherwise good citizen into jail.

You'll probably get loads of support for your post on TVF but that's really a sad commentary about you and them.
