Governments can say what they want to legislate what they want and it still means nothing.  No matter what country you live in.  The people have to want to make the change.  

 

We have so much plastic around not because the government wanted it but people wanted it.

 

Why did coke and Pepsi switch to plastic?  Cheaper to do for them and people b!tched and complained about the deposit they had to pay.

 

Why do we have plastic bags at the grocery store simple people complained because the paper kept ripping and it was hard to carry.

 

Remember the waxed paper cups that we used to get our pop or coffee in when we did take out.  Changed to plastic because it did not leak.

 

Why does so much waste end up in the ocean?  Not because of the government or the plastic company but because people are too <deleted> lazy to wait until they find a bin to put it in after they are done.  They would much rather just chuck it in the bush or the canal.

 

SOLUTION:  Let's revisit history.  Charge a deposit on plastic pop and water bottles.  This is good for a number of reasons.  The first being you may not chuck something worth 5 baht.  Thais would set up stalls along the beach or areas that would buy the stuff from you and then resell it to a bigger player.

 

More garbage bins on the beaches and streets.

Why not ban all supermarkets, mini shops, traders etc etc from using plastic bags.. FULL STOP !!!

Bring your own bag being the only option... Thais & foreigners will soon get used to it!

Of course that would require constructing proper recycling facilities to deal with the returns.

The cost of the roll out might have gone a long way to constructing such a facility.

Fantastic ideas that have proven to work in other Countries.

However, as we know, this is Thailand, and the very thought of a Recycle Centre, will not even enter into an equation.

And just how do you propose that people who throw trash on the floor next to a waste bin rather than lift the lid and put it inside actually use these facilities, thats of course if they ever get constructed in the first place.

Never ceases to amaze me, that so many Tv posters

are devoid of a sense of humour,

I think it's mostly  an age thing,  maybe coupled with a disillusionment with life in general in Thailand,   Getting burned, crazy wife,  lack of money and stuff like that.

Oh well,  the show must go on.

These kind of projects have been discussed since 2008 but never been really implemented ....Thailand still lacks the infrastructure i.e. for collection or composting considering that most waste here is Wet organic waste
