PM accuses the media of trying to undermine his premiership

By Thai PBS

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha on Wednesday vented his frustration at the media, accusing them without naming names of attempting to destroy the “honor” of Thai premiership.

While delivering a speech on the occasion of Anti-Human Trafficking Day, the prime minister unexpectedly took on the media. It wasn’t immediately clear what triggered his outburst.

Judging from his grumbling, however, journalists at the Government House believed that he had been irked by certain news reports critical of him and his government.   But when asked by a reporter which newspaper columns had offended him, he did not respond but merely said:  “because I am human. I am a man and I work for men, for Thailand, for Thai people.  I am what I am, but I will make this duty honorable, with dignity here and abroad.

This latest comment proves the PM is living in la-la land. The media are not undermining his premiership, he is doing that himself, with a lot of help from ole fatty.

  • I'm no expert, but it's possible that honour is only deserving to elected premiers.

By having my strings pulled, I also will become a semi rich man.

Ladies, take a back seat, the 21st century is still to discover Thailand.....

I believe that various International and national organisations have launched extensively equipped search parties to discover 21st Century Shangri-La but they were intercepted by Thai customs and fined and deported.

Only their empty wallets remain as mute testimony of the fate of those who wish to discover the exotic East.

"why several people try to destroy the honor of the prime minister"

Isn't that exactly what the coup did?

It's kind of unfair on him.  In pre-Enlightenment Europe, which is where Thailand is now politically, rulers didn't have to deal with a pesky press, so why should he?

It's really bad emough being ruled by a gang of thieves (today's news stories: unnecessary parliament building stupendously over budget, plans to launch satellites into space...), but the daily whining, self-pity and pious pretense of sacrifice are vomit-inducing.

Compared to the UK media, he gets off very lightly.

Imagine if he was interviewed by Paxman...

'Honour', like respect, needs to be earned - not commanded or stolen.

I guess he is also undermining the female population in this country.

You simply cannot find any way to feel sorry for sorry for him and his self inflicted wounds.

You beat me to it.

But such a comment is risky. I commented on something similar yesterday where I saw a Prayut/Trump comparison and another member told me I was an idiot (or something like that) because the thread was not about Trump.

Glad you said it. I totally agree.

Prayut is on overstay, it's just that no one dares to tell him.

A Prime Minister , with a mandate and program which had been chosen in an election in which he (or she) had stood against others and won a majority of votes would perhaps have grounds to complain, and may find some sympathy.

A Prime Minister who appointed himself, having seized power in a coup in order to forestall an election and subsequently has effectively ruled by decree, can also find sympathy, it's in the dictionary between...

Need advice on how to handle the press, just call Dr Mahatier in Malaysia.

His method worked for years and still is!

It's classic Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Fits all the criteria.

From Wikipedia;   People with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) are characterized by their persistent grandiosity, excessive need for admiration, and a personal disdain and lack of empathy for other people.[6][7] As such, the person with NPD usually displays arrogance and a distorted sense of superiority, and they seek to establish abusive power and control over others.

Yes indeed. Mental ill health is rife in Thailand - but goes untreated ...

The media? When it comes to destroying the 'honor' of Thai premiership the media can't even begin to rival your own efforts. You're doing a brilliant job, General.

The "Fake News" excuses are coming

I real "LEADER" don't need to remember always his/her position!

Man-Child works for the people who installed him. But we can't talk about that here. Strange, as even the BP allows that kind if discussion. If I can call it that.

Translation: "Criticism is neither valued nor wanted".  So much for experiential learning via a media and populist feedback loop which Thais in general, and generals in particular, are adverse.

I wonder if it has ever occurred to him that arrogance towards the media does little but place him more directly under the media's microscope?  He did quite literally set the stage (pun intended).

Under the microscope for sure. He's placing a target on his back just like a certain President in another country. These people are not forward thinkers.

When this delusional, man child finally leaves office, perhaps the country will have mature leadership.  He usurps power then has the audacity to whine.  What a buffoon.
