Big Joke goes after Thai woman in the UK after "damaging Facebook posts"

The Thai authorities are going international in their battle on fake news about the ruling government.

And they are busting people locally for sharing stories deemed as damaging to the government.

They are even contacting international agencies to try and arrest a Thai woman in London for drawing connections between the Thai prime minister, his foremost deputy and airships and satellites.

Crime buster Maj Gen Surachet Hakpal - deputy commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau - said yesterday that an arrest warrant has been issued for a woman called Wattana Ebbage (name transliterated from Thai) listed as running the Facebook page "KonthaiUK" out of London.

The Maj Gen is even preparing to ask Interpol to issue a red notice for the 56 year old woman.

The Facebook page published distorted and damaging "news" said Surachet that represented a threat to the security of Thailand.

The warrant was issued under computer crime guidelines.

The page features pictures of an airship and satellites interspersed with images of DPM Prawit Wongsuwan and PM Prayut Chan-ocha.

It suggested that the airship was purchased so it could be repaired. And claimed that billions had been spent on satellites that was part of a corrupt scheme.

Surachet reiterated what he had said in an interview earlier in the week that the world's police forces were "One Team" and believed, like smashing call center gangs, this would be just another case, reported Daily News.

Daily News said that 7 people have been arrested for sharing the story. These are believed to be in Thailand.

Twenty others are subject to warrants for sharing the story too.

The interview earlier in the week on Daily News and translated by Thaivisa suggested that Maj Gen Surachet has a close relationship with DPM Prawit. He also said that those arrested in another fake news case about fuel price rises would only be warned.

The Cambodian person who ran the website that suggested erroneously that Prayut had told the Thai public to fill up with water if they didn't like price hikes, was arrested and faces jail.

The woman in the UK could face a similar fate if she came or was brought back to Thailand.

Surachet is known as Big Joke in the Thai media after a series of high profile busts on many different types of crime much utilizing technology.

I don't think Interpol will be issuing a red notice, any time soon, for a satirical pop at the Junta.. You would think that the fiasco in Germany, with the monk, might have given them a heads up

  • Be nice if the same effort was made to hunt down Mr Red Bull. Thats the 'Big Joke' most are worried about, not photo ops for tourist cops.

You beat me to it!

Big Joke has been successful in many of his campaigns so far but if he's now getting involved in cases like this it's likely he'll soon be living up to his name!

Thailand doesn't need anyone to do or say anything to embarrass it. It does a perfectly good job of showing how backward and repressive it is, every time they open their mouths. Zero chance of getting an extradition or help from Interpol with this stupidity.

The UK doesn't follow Thai laws. Please learn how to respect other peoples' laws and cultures. If you don't like things put up on Facebook, ask the user to remove it. If they don't want to, ask Facebook. If Facebook say no, then block Facebook in Thailand. See how Thais like that. Otherwise, shut up and stop wasting tax payer's money.

I'm sure I've seen the face of the man in the moon smirking disrespectfully in Thailand's direction.

Perhaps there's a seat going on Richard Branson's space Shuttle...

Does this mean the junta-bashing on TVF will soon be coming to an end as members begin to self-censor for fear of problems with authorities?

If so, what are we all going to do for a laugh?

What a bunch of party-poopers!!!

I've heard that Big Joke will be asking the UK police to arrest any Thais in the UK who use electronic cigarettes to deport and send back to Thailand as vaping is illegal in Thailand.

The fall-back (i.e. face-saving) position: It was an excellent opportunity to explain Thai cultural issues to the foreign governments.

if they are listing the truth then they have done nothing wrong, if they are simply making it up/using innuendo then they should be stopped, the truth is whats important and writing lies/innuendo about anyone for political gain/personal bias should never be acceptable to anyone. Too many use the internet to spread false information/stories, in India this has already caused several deaths of innocent people in just one case, I fault anyone that spreads lies or innuendo and have no sympathy for them if caught doing it.

Perhaps the Red Bull heir is in the UK at the moment too?

The RTP need to send thirteen police to try and collect one monk. Big Joke can go on his own and bring back thirteen felons!

Big Joke knows his stuff - putting the RTP to shame.

Pretty low numbers and a waste of time. I'm thinking thousands of Thais saw and shared this story using Line.

He's a tourist cop a bit like a parking inspector going after the bad guy.

When is the TV show to be made?

As the standard of driving in the UK is very high, I doubt this Thai trait would ever occur there.

Also a lot of the posts in the UK are wooden, not concrete. Surely it's a matter for the UK Highways Department really.

Someones ego is getting as big as someone elses ! we know who
