Drivers with lots of experience use peripheral vision for vehicles in their immediate vicinity and are always looking hundreds of meters ahead and scanning for road junction etc. Always, not just up country. Places like Pattaya are worse.

Motorcyclists in similar situations are always scanning for their 1m of escape, just in case. But as an extra concentration load have to be considering the road surface as well.

This thread is the exception that makes the rule? There is obviously at least one old, bold motorcyclist

Disagree.

I ride a scooter, and am always scanning for every possible eventuality.

While you have to say that the fella was serious travelling at speed down the road, it is the bike that is the major culprit. She crosses the road without looking, and the guy wipes out taking evasive

I have seen too may of these accidents now and have decided to not try to avoid the person who has done the wrong thing. I will of course try to brake to lesson the impact on them but I will hold true

Video shows the driver of the car was definitely moving at a very high rate of speed, which he would have had to be doing to crush the entire front of the car into the back.

The guy in the car clearly had right of way since he was on the highway and the old bird on the motorbike was attempting to cross the 2 lanes of the highway in order to execute a u-turn/right turn. It was her responsibility to make sure there was space enough between oncoming vehicles to make her maneuver across the highway without disrupting traffic on the highway, regardless of the speed that the traffic is moving at, whether it be too slow or too fast, she is expected to be able to judge that. It's not like he was moving at supersonic speeds that are too fast for the human eye to be able to register.

If the car driver was speeding then that is a separate issue. We don't know because we can't see the speedo on the dashcam video. Duty of care lay with the old bird on the motorbike. Whatever may be proved after the event, I don't see any brake lights on the car prior to the crash and it appears that the car didn't deviate from its course until the impact occurred, which may suggest she appeared out of nowhere in his field of vision... it's hard to say. In any event, a 68-year old woman on a motorbike caused the death of a young 24-year old car driver due to her reckless driving and failure to exercise due care and attention. RIP young fella.

So now both of them are braindead.
