Court orders B21m assets of former Pheu Thai MP seized

 

The Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions has ordered the seizure of 21-million-worth assets of Kasem Nimmolrat, a former Pheu Thai MP for Chiang Mai, after he was found by the National Anti-Corruption Commission to be unusually rich.

 

The court delivered its order on Friday in response to a request filed by the attorney-general in 2017. The request was for two plots of land of Mr Kasem in Tambon Rim Tai in Chiang Mai’s Mae Rim district and his shares in the Ascon Construction Plc to be confiscated.

 

The prosecution’s request followed a ruling by the NACC on July 27, 2017 that Mr Kasem, a former Pheu Thai MP for Chiang Mai and former deputy chairman of the Chiang Mai provincial administration organisation, became unusually rich after leaving the post of deputy chairman of the Chiang Mai PAO.

Thats not "unusually rich" for heavens sake it is not even rich...............

Now that is rich, but again, not "unusually" for a member of the Junta.

Prawit would not even give him the time of day!

A detailed report I read elsewhere said this was on top of 168m already confiscated. Didn't he do well?

Funny that no one wants to seize the assets of those "unusually filthy rich" generals who make up the incumbent junta government. Particularly those generals who deliberately refuse to declare their wealth; like watches and shareholdings.

Unusually rich and no epilates is the new corruption red line by the look of it .

But, but, PT politicians don't do that, same as the Shins they got the 'ticket' from, honest people, all of them, all 'for the small people', no corruption, nothing dishonest, as shown on the picture with a Shin on each side, when he was given the go to become their PM in their home turf of C-M, what he did, so what went wrong...? LOL!

And considering one of the Shins on the pic was the 'innocent lamb' Yingluck, would she, eventually, possibly, not be 'that' innocent, and just a member of a criminal family with an innocent face, come up, the ones who idolise her: whether it's that, or she's plain stupid, have your pick!

No doubt the same kind of disgusting corruption can be shown in the central plains, in the South, in Chonburi, you name it. ...But at least I don't hear voices from there shouting they are clean as a whistle and did nothing wrong. Not saying they'd admit anything in front of a Court, ...whenever taken there and showed guilty (and even then, look at Chonbury).

Allow me to repeat myself: when the military would have been honest about their last coup, the 'changes and reforms' and such, the first thing they should have done, no, would not have been to send the whole of the RTP home, but would have been to disband ALL political parties, and have ALL elected and/or in function politicians, national, regional, provincial, district, banned FOR LIFE! You don't cut wood without making splinters, sorry for the, very few, decent ones!

But, I'm now sure of, it was never the idea, the concept. What it was about was to secure the future of an Institution, not for Itself, alas, but to make sure its, self-appointed, 'guardians', the military conglomerate (sounds UdSSR, is) would stay in place, get stronger, at the front row of the money-trough, ...for 20 years or more.

And to the ones who get pimples hearing names as Suthep and PDRC, get some cortisone skin cream, as they, although they will never admit it, have probably all, together, been f...ed (details, etc., not published), big time, by Prawit, Prayuth (in that order, please) and their military aeropage of old tigers-from-the-east, and a skin cream won't solve their private problem!

'Cadbury', not smart a bear in the stories, sweet, but ..., two wrongs do not make one right: of course all those generals and consorts should be exposed on the pillory, and I hope they will, soon, be, but should all the other corrupt, dishonest, criminal, civilians (like politicians and officials) not be...?

Read a little bit more, when you can, the 'cake' had been seized already, this a forgotten fluff of whipped cream. Would have saved you the time to come up with the (in itself mighty scandalous, no doubt) Prawit watches' anthem. But as you guys, alas, seem to be one trick ponies, just do your thing.

Close aide to Yaowapa has assets seized for being ‘unusually wealthy’

A CLOSE aide to Yaowapa Wongsawat, an influential figure in the Pheu Thai Party, and the aide’s wife have had more than Bt21 million of their assets seized by court order for being “unusually wealthy”.

 

The Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders yesterday found that the former Pheu Thai Party MP for Chiang Mai, Kasem Nimmolrat, and his wife Duangsuda, could not convincingly explain the source of their wealth.

 

The court ordered the seizure of two of their land plots in Chiang Mai, together valued at Bt11.86 million, and shares in Ascon Construction PLC belonging to Duangsuda valued at Bt9.27 million. Altogether, assets valued at Bt21.1 million will be seized.

 

Kasem is also a former deputy chief of the Chiang Mai provincial administrative organisation.

 

In July last year, the National Anti-Corruption Commission indicted Kasem for allegedly being unusually wealthy – considered a euphemism for corruption. He was later sued by the Office of the Attorney General.

 

The court found that the two land plots, which are located in Chiang Mai’s Mae Rim district, were purchased under Kasem’s name with two cashier’s cheques for Bt11 million. It was found that the cheques were issued by a commercial bank in Nonthaburi in December 2014.

 

The bank’s assistant manager told the court that a messenger bought the cheques using Bt11 million in cash. The messenger had earlier been assigned by certain people in the Wongsawat family to conduct financial transactions “regularly”.

 

The unnamed messenger was found to have worked in a company in which Yaowapa and her son are directors, but he had never worked for Kasem. So, the court was not convinced Kasem gave the Bt11 million to the messenger to buy cashier’s cheques.

 

Also, Kasem and his spouse each have multiple bank accounts in Chiang Mai. It was unclear why they would need to have someone purchase cashier’s cheques in Nonthaburi and carry them hundreds of kilometres to the northern city for the land purchase.

 

The court found that Kasem earned Bt817,556 in 2013 and Bt664,480 in 2014, while his wife had an income of Bt1.37 million in 2013 and Bt1.15 million in 2014. Their total revenues during those two years were insufficient to buy the land plots.

 

Also, no evidence was found that either Kasem or his wife had withdrawn money from their banks to purchase cashier’s cheques.

 

The court also found that Duangsuda’s 61.8 million shares in Ascon Construction, worth Bt9.27 million, were obtained unusually, as the shares were bought with an income earned from a sale of shares in Wyncoast Industrial Park PLC that the court earlier ruled had been obtained dishonestly.

 

Kasem was not present in the courtroom when the verdict was read. He was represented by his lawyer, who said he would ask his client if he wanted to appeal.

 

In March last year, the court sentenced Kasem to 12 months in jail for filing false information with the NACC regarding his assets and debts. The court also seized Bt168 million in assets belonging to him and his wife found to have been obtained dishonestly while Kasem was serving as Chiang Mai’s deputy PAO chief.

 

In April, Yaowapa’s husband, former prime minister Somchai Wongsawat, said that she decided to leave politics for good but would not say why.

 

However, observers suggest that Yaowapa and her siblings from the Shinawatra family – particularly ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra – have retained their influence in Pheu Thai even though they hold no executive posts in the party.

That´s the unusually rich level for a Pheu Thai associated person.

Then we have other classification and lists when it comes to the different colors in society.

After that we have the list of the untochables were not even the numbers are stipulated.

We appear to have here a man who came upon almost 200 million baht who has been jailed for being "unusually wealthy" and had his assets seized. Nowhere do I read anything about theft. There is no mention of him stealing from the country or the citizens of Thailand. I find it almost unbelievable that this 220m baht windfall has apparently come from nowhere and just taking it back is seen as just punishment. If someone from a bank had come upon 200m baht I feel sure the bank would be looking for a much longer prison sentence for that unusual wealthy income.

I'm with you, I think the whole works should have been ejected, right down to the village level. As I have said before, when you drive around my village you can tell which houses belong to successful politicians.

doubt theres any general without quite large sums, so they cant be charged as unusually when they all are..

 

it all works out for the good of the people..if you believe them..

No, they either get suspended sentences, community service which they don't do, the case never gets to court or if in any doubt they leg it.

Selectivity Eric - the gift that never stops giving!

 

Have you noticed that apart from the skew and biases shown based on which faction the selected supports, there's also one based on position and wealth. It always a relative minnow who gets nabbed, never one of the big players no matter who they support.

 

Chalerm legged it to Denmark then came back when things were more er "favorable". And brushed aside all those rich car questions by saying a Singaporean business man asked him to look after them! Now we have watchgate. Both cases will just die, and many many more will never even get investigated or questioned. All too inconvenient.

 

Until that changes, those in the untouchable strata will continue fighting over the spoils.

Yes it would be better if they go after all sides. Does not excuse this guy at all. But if they go after everyone then people can't call their convictions political anymore.

I am all for getting all corrupt people no matter what side they are on. Its the only way to stop the problems
