Small boats are warned not to venture out of the sea in the Andaman Sea and the upper part of the Gulf during June 16-20 because of strong winds and high waves while sailors are also warned to exercise special caution.

The Meteorological Department issued an announcement at 5 pm on Saturday warning of strong winds and high waves in the Andaman sea on the western coast of Thailand and the in the Gulf from Surat Thani province upward from Saturday until next Wednesday.

It said that the waves in the Andaman Sea are between 2-4 metres high while in the upper part of the Gulf, the waves rise to 2-3 metres high.

Any Australians thinking of going for a sail with three Thai lady “friends”, please take note of the above warning...

We had torrential rain (how unusual) all the way from Trang to Satun today, checked into the resort, which I wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy, only for the heavens to open for about 2 hours so had to leave all our stuff in the car till it blew over for about 3 minuets  and then get our bags out in a major hurry before we both got soaked.

At least the weatherman got it right. ?

Yes, after the fact.

We had strong gusts, really strong, around 16.00 hours, while I was on a boat.

Not a good time to hop on the ferry.

You reckon? having spent many years offshore in the GOT, where many lives have been lost, I think they will listen, if you hear about a huge loss of life in the next few days like after some bad weather in years gone by (Typoon Gay 1989 400 lives lost!) then I will have been proved wrong! :shock1:

The Facebook page for the ferry has posted several notices (in Thai) and included wave height graphs of the gulf, so they're either warning customers about upcoming bad weather or cancelling until further notice.

Good for them.    I have a lot of respect for harsh  weather conditions on the sea.   I've had a few unpleasant experiences that i'd rather never repeat.    I actually saw whitecaps yesterday  from  my balcony and that means it'd be pretty bad once out on the open water.
