Taxi service charge at Suvarnabhumi set to rise to 75 baht - extra for more bags

Taxis offering rides from Bangkok's main airport will demand that the 50 baht service charge is increased to 75 baht.

They are also demanding that while two bags remain free of charge extra be paid for more bags.

This would see a charge of ten baht for the third bag and thirty baht for four or more bags.

The proposals were posted on the page of "Taxi Report TH" and reported by Manager.

It was stated that taxi drivers have hardship. They have undergone politeness training, many have upgraded their vehicles and they have to drive 15 hours a day to make enough to live on.

Many tourists arrive with 4-6 bags, they said.

The move comes as other measures to raise prices per kilometer are under discussion.

A letter will be sent to the communications ministry and department of land transport for consideration.

The fee for a seven-seater taxi would become 95 baht if the proposals go through.

Thus with many bags and expressway fees customers at Suvarnabhumi could be paying around 200 baht extra on the meter fare to go downtown.

4 bags?

With the gas tank in the trunk, you will be lucky to get 1 in the taxi.

Yep so the passengers will be holding them on lap in a shoe box corolla with poor air con and in bumper to bumper traffic.

Avoid these taxi scum. Either get a limo or if destination is near a bts get the train. I used to be a train snob but now it's all I use ?

I never take taxi at Suvarnabhumi anyway. Train is the best. Saves me some nerves and not dealing with taxis at least till I arrive to Bangkok.

Hopefuly the new train will be there to Pattaya as well. I prefer to take BTS rather than taxis however the cost is sometime the same.

If you dont have bags I guess. Try taking during morning or evening rush hours.

That's the headline, but the report says no such thing:

Taxis offering rides from Bangkok's main airport will demand that the 50 baht service charge is increased to 75 baht.

More wonderful reporting skills. Here's some help for re-writing the headline: Suvarnabhumi taxi drivers demand fare increase.

This is what all airlines are doing...nickel-and-diming you for every penny they can get.

Travel light if you can, I just only bring a carry on and a small bag.

Use the Airport link if you can...so much more economical.

Or use Grab....

I paid 600 THB from lower Sukhumbiz hotel to the main train station - haha, felt extremely ripped off but we had many bags and the concierge said no taxi will use meter because of the bags. Yes, they count the bags. I just realized I could have ordered probably 3 taxis with meter and it would have been cheaper. Hahaha... what a scam, first time after using 1000 taxis in BKK. They really serious about the bags.

Where does one catch the bus from at the airport and where does it go in the city ie sukhumvit area ?Thanks for any info.

I would appreciate info on this question as well.

How much longer will it take by bus as opposed to train and to cab?

The solution to this is simple: get a taxi from the departures level after they have let off a passenger. No add-on charges, no queue, you pick the taxi you like, and you will have one very happy driver who will not be dead-heading back to the city.
