A man was arrested on firearms charges in a Bangkok residential neighbourhood early Wednesday after shooting a pistol and a rifle at a stray dog that had chased him.

The dog was not harmed.

Police from Chokchai station arrested Somchai Damrongkiartchai, 53, midway along Soi Nakniwet 24 in Lat Phrao district and seized a Colt .45 pistol and a rifle with nine rounds of ammunition.

Seven spent shells from the two guns were found.

Somchai was allegedly still waving his guns around angrily when police arrived in response to a neighbour’s complaint.

The officers said he told them he’d fired at the dog because it tried to bite him, but missed, so he shot into the air to scare it off.

He faces charges of owning firearms without a licence and carrying and discharging firearms in a public place.

This is what happens when the authorities close their eyes on a genuine problem that is making life hell for many.... religious belief should not take over protecting society.

Before Thai people use a stick now change to guns but it still not fix the problem with soi dogs

It's wearing a collar, and looks pretty sleek to me for a stray. Oh, and he just happened to be carrying a rifle and pistol when the dog tried to bite him.

Dog threated to bite him, he went home got his gear. When it happens to me the first time dog gets some of my special chili infused water up the snout second time it gets it's last tasty treat. Soi dogs can be a menace and do cause injury.

The soi dog problem stems from a few years back, and nothing to do with religious beliefs.  However, explaining any further will surely earn me a TV suspension.

Buddhists believe that is wrong to hurt or kill animals, because all beings are afraid of injury and death:

All living things fear being beaten with clubs.
All living things fear being put to death.
Putting oneself in the place of the other,
Let no one kill nor cause another to kill.

No stray/soi dog.

More like a guard dog for the car park.

Did the two legged have good reason to walk around there?

Maybe so!  But, there's a more Thai perception which over-rides anything to do with Buddhism.

As far as the information you quoted above, read the daily Thai news; doesn't quite fit, does it!

This means there are no Buddhists in Thailand , except for a handful of vegetarians/vegans.

Do Agree, IMHO looks like religion is used when it suits as an excuse for not doing the job maybe ?...but as you said above, touchy topic so I won't say any more ! :jap:

Don't Kill Animals Just Kill People,,,Great Idea,,,So one can't Put down a MAD Dog? Grow up Get Real Get ones Priority in Order. Soi dogs Need to be Exterminated they cause to much trouble. Bugger their Religion do whats Right  to Protect the People. Unless People Ain't as imported than Animals.

oh my we have the core bunch of control freaks out on this thread wanting animals to be exterminated . 7 billion humans is way too many for this planet; just reading a few posts on here confirms that

always the same lame excuse for animal abusers ( tried to bite thats why!!)

If i saw any abuse towards an animal like this you need a gun to hold me back from destroying the control freak animsl abuser
