Chennai flight to Bangkok, land to CM, Laos and back

I booked a flight 1 August return 26 October Chennai to Bangkok with plan to use USA exemption then get extension before traveling North. Near the end of the first 60 days head Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai and Mekong boat trip to LP and fly back to CM getting another 30 days and leave on return flight.

Do I need exit tickets? What other documents will I need?

I've been lurking and picked up some of the details but it's not really clear as yet.

You may need a ticket out of the country within 30 days of arrival to board your flight to here.

For rest of you trip you will only need your ticket out in October.

I am thinking of early check in so I'll have time to book Nok air if challenged on exit ticket; cheap and I think cancellation refund with insurance.
