Tachileik Border

Featured Replies

Hello,

I got multi entry visa on 16th of October 2017, so I could stay in Thailand to 16th of April 2018. Few days before this date (11th of April) I came to Thailand and got stamp for next 60 days (to 10th of June). Before this date I want to immigration office in Chiang Mai to extend visa for next 30 days (to 9th of July). And now my plan: next week I want to go to Tachileik and cross the border, but I read that there are some problems to going back to Thailand (https://wanderwisdom.com/travel-destinations/Mae-Sai-to-Burma). I mean this part:

New Rules - May and August 2014

However, as of May 2014, Thai Immigration have been clamping down on those who continually exit and immediately return without visas via land crossings for the purpose of extending their stay for a further 15 days each time under Thailand's visa waiver scheme. This means that those without visas won't automatically be granted entry, although they have also announced they'll apply the ruling on a case by case basis.

The rule is:

Tourists attempting to re-enter Thailand without a visa after having just completed a stay in the country will NOT be allowed to do so.

I am not sure it is about me, so I would like to ask you, if I will have problems to come back Thailand on the same day? I just want to go Myanmar and maybe after 1 hour come back Thailand.

I read also about necessity of having flight ticket (to leave Thailand in next 30 days). Is it true or no one check it?

I will be grateful for any help.

That is some very old info you dug up.

All back to normal now.

You can get 30 day visa exempt entry there now.

But after you do that one you will only be able do one more this year since they are limited to 2 per calendar year now.

Thank you so much for quick response ?
I assume that flight ticket is also an old info and just don't care about it?

No ticket needed.

Thank you again ?

Also you can extend your Mae Sai visa exempt for 30 days/ 1900 baht and go again for your second and last entry and then extend that. Then you are done with visa exempts for the year by land.

I am not sure I understand. What is the difference, if in both situations I can get 30 days more, but in first I pay 500thb and in second 1900thb?

What he is saying is that a 30-day visa exempt entry can be extended for a further 30 days at your local immigration office without the need to do a border hop. This costs 1,900 baht. It says nothing about the cost for a Myanmar border pass that is required when leaving and re-entering Thailand to get a visa exempt entry.

Personally, I would suggest if you plan to stay longer without a return to home country for another METV, that you start using single entry tourist visas. A few are easy to get in Vientiane. The visa exempt entries by land are limited to two per calendar year, and are useful for emergencies (such as when an expected visa application is rejected).

OK, got it ? Someone told me I cannot extend this visa in immigration office, because it's not like a visa, but permission to stay in Thailand for 30 days...

Any tourist entry (whether with a visa or visa exempt) can be extended one time per entry for a further 30 days. This has been true for years. In fact, the whole notion of "extending a visa" in Thailand is a misunderstanding of the process. Visas are never extended. What you receive is an extension of your permission to stay.

Hello again! I have one question more.  If I went out from Thailand and come back the same day and I got entry permission for next 30 days, can I extend it for next 30 days in Immigration Office now? Or it's not possible if I did an extension my 6 month multi entry visa this year? Sorry, I am still a newby in visas things...
