webfact
Pineapple prices expected to rise in July BANGKOK, 2 July 2018 (NNT) – The Ministry of Commerce anticipates an increase in pineapple prices in the month of July as the ministry has been able to remove 2,000 tons of the fruit from the market. Commerce Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong said his ministry has been promoting the sale of pineapples through Pracharat networks. Pracharat is an approach designed to allow a high level of participation by the people in every sector. PTT Public Company Limited, a Thai state-owned oil and gas company, has agreed to purchase 890 tons of pineapples and will give them away to its customers. Meanwhile, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited will buy up to 460 tons of the fruit and will offer them to customers at Bangchak gas stations nationwide. In addition, large supermarkets namely Tesco Lotus, Bic C, Makro, The Mall, and Tops have all signed a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Internal Trade to buy 2,820 tons of pineapples directly from the producers. As a result of these agreements, Sontirat said pineapple prices will be higher, starting early July. -- nnt 2018-07-
Popular Post Cadbury
Yesterday a crisis; today problem solved. The brilliance of this government is mind numbing. So Thailand's utilities are buying the pineapples to give away free to customers. I hope this cunning plan eventually helps the growers. A mini variation to a price stabilisation plan modelled on a once famous rice scheme perhaps?
edwinchester
Thailand's annual pineapple production is over 2 millions tonnes so removing less than 0.1% from the market will have next to zero effect. 1

Yes as you say, utter nonsense, but when prices rise a little you will have a ministry spokesman spouting off what a good job we did, we saved the growers from going bankrupt.
