Installing infant car seat anchor - old car

Featured Replies

We have an old Camry ( 2004 )  we use for local errands ( ie go to market ), old but great car, changed 1 radiators in 14 years ( unlike the European cars I have / have owned ).

Anyway, it does not have a baby car seat anchor for the top of the seat tether -  can one be installed ?  Under there shelf behind the back seat is thick steel which forms a part of the boot

I just went here /www.toyota.com/owners/resources/owners-manuals/camry/

& it says you have 3

Didn't realise it was USA, but knew one would have to check against book

There is another way but but it's technical - I'm sure you could handle it

It concerns the beefing up of the cross pillar with metal plates.

Just had another thought

As you noticed your car may not have been designed for the Head Strap as you would of been using just the seat belt (center one from the manual )

So it seems as though you would have a center belt going through the top section (if I'm right )

So I would say if that seems to be inline with your Head strap you would be able to use the anchor of the central belt as the Head Strap anchor point since it is rated (may have to get a longer strap )

Hope all this makes sense, if willing or doable

Skippy if your car doesn't have pre installed seat anchors you'll need to buy something like this and get the drill out.

Lower ones might have to go on the floor behind the rear seat with the car seat straps going under the rear seat cushion. You won't be the first person to do this. Just have a quick internet search.

Thanks and thanks to vocalneal too.

Bevup idea good, problem is have twins so not enough to go around . Vocalneal, found the anchors U mentioned - will get them. Steel under hat rack looks very solid - so not too worried about its strength
