Coming over to LOS in 3 months to retire. Will have necessary criteria - ban balance, income etc.

Is it easier / better to come in on O visa and change in Thailand or get a 1 year mult entry in UK ?

Thanks

Up to you as they say. If you obtain a multi entry O-A visa prior to arrival it can cover almost two years before you need to visit immigration for an extension of stay (you get one year permitted to stay stamp on any entry). But you will require more paperwork to issue. But money can be in home country.

To extension your stay here (not an O-A visa) you need a non immigrant visa (can change from tourist or visa free entry) and 800k in Thai bank account for 3 months prior to application or 65k pension/income as confirmed you embassy letter.

With either type of visa – non-immigrant O or non-immigrant OA – you apply for an annual extension at a local immigration office in Thailand after you enter Thailand. At the time of application, you need to show evidence of 800,000 Baht in a Thai bank account for the preceding three months or a monthly income of minimum 65,000 Baht or a combination of both adding up to 800,000 Baht per year.

You say that you will have the necessary bank balance, income, etc. If your bank balance is over 800k Baht or your monthly income is over 65k Baht, you do not need both.

If you plan to apply for annual extension based on money in the bank it is important for your planning to know whether you already have a bank account in Thailand to which you can remit the money before to leave for Thailand.

With a single entry non-O visa, giving you permission to stay for 90 days, if you remit the money only after your arrival in Thailand the money will not be in the bank for the required three months by the time you apply for extension. You would need to get a multiple-entry non-O visa and do at least one border run.

With a non-OA visa, giving you permission to stay for one year, you have no problem meeting the three-month deposit requirement prior to youR application for extension. For this visa, the Thai consulate wants to see proof of funds in a bank in your home country, a police report and possibly also a health certificate.

For O-A a health certificate is required from the home country.
