England’s World Cup squad have sent their best wishes to the 12 boys and their 25 year old football coach who are trapped inside the flooded Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai.

Speaking at the England press conference ahead of the crunch World Cup quarter final tie against Sweden on Saturday, central defender John Stones said he hoped the boys get out of the cave “safe and sound”.

"I've been speaking about it with a few of the boys - it sort of brings home what people's situations are at the minute, and it's so sad to see where they are and we hope they get out safe and sound, Stones said.

"They won't see this but to everyone, their friends and family, all of the boys, all of the England squad, all of our thoughts are with them and we want to see them get out safe and sound."

The well wishes come after one of the boys was pictured inside the cave wearing a replica England football shirt.

Meanwhile, Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp also shared a message of support of the group

The boys were miraculously discovered by a two elite British divers on Monday evening after being trapped inside the cave for almost 10 days.

However, because the cave is flooded, the boys who are now being cared for by Thai navy personnel, remain trapped inside.

Rescue workers are currently exploring a number of possibilities to evacuate the group, which includes giving them a crash course in swimming and scuba diving, to waiting until the flood waters have receded - although that could take months.

After the jubilation of finding the boys alive in the cave earlier this week, the rescue mission took a tragic turn on Friday after it was announced that a Navy SEAL diver had died while taking oxygen tanks to where the boys are located.
