Looking at another trip to Pattaya/Jomtien.

Last trip was in November 2014 I arrived on VISA ON ARRIVAL 30 days which I understood could be extended at Jomtien immigration for an additional 30 days.

I was due to leave by December 5th 2014 and went to Jomtien immigration on the 4th December to extend for 30 days. I got a stamp in my passport 'application for extension of stay is not approved' they gave me 7 days.

My passport at that time had never been used for any other trips overseas including Thailand and my previous trip to Thailand was 3 years earlier (on my old passport). I did have one overstay for about 2 days in about 2010.

Can anyone understand why the 30 day extension was not approved with a new unused passport?

I am looking to enter on Visa on arrival again but may want to extend similar to before. Don't want to get 60 day visa in OZ as don't live near an embassy and last time I posted my passport to them Australia Post lost it, not doing that again........

Also how strict are they in checking for a return ticket if I arrive on Visa on arrival?

Thanks.

Perhaps the last application was denied in error since that was only a few months after the 30 day extension of a 30 day visa exempt entry (it is not a visa on arrival) became possible.

You will not have a problem getting one now.

If you do not have a return or onward out of the country within 30 days of arrival you may not be allowed to board your flight to here. Immigration seldom ask to see one when you enter the country.
