Applying for Non Immigrant visa FROM outside my home country Possible?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, So I'm from Mexico, Currently reside in Japan with a student visa.  Thinking on working in Thailand, Do you guys know if I need to go back to Mexico to do the whole visa thing? Or is it possible to apply for a visa from your current location, may that be abroad.

Dependent upon what visa you are applying for you can apply for it anywhere in the world other than at embassies and consulates that only issue visas to those who are citizens or legal residents of the country where they are located.

Unfortunately for you the embassy in Japan requires a person to meet the  following requirement to apply for a visa.

4. For non-Japanese applicant, a copy of residence card or certificate of alien registration which is valid at least 3 months or more. For those who are currently applying for renewal of residence card, please submit a copy of acceptance of renewal issued by Immigration Bureau of Japan. The applicant is also required to present the original documents of identification upon visa application.

Hi! Thank you for the information.  I don't understand fully what that means though, I have my Valid ID issued here in Japan. Did I understand something wrong?

Ah, by the way, the visa I am trying to apply for is the Non-Immigrant type B I think it is, which I would need to get a work permit.

If you have a residence card (ID card I assume) you should be able to apply. I suggest you contact them about it.

Will you be working for a company or teaching? There are different requirements for the non-b visa to get one. See: http://site.thaiembassy.jp/en/visa/type/

Unless you have a job arranged already you will not be able to get the non-b visa. You may need to get a tourist visa and then apply for the non-b be visa at a nearby embassy or consulate after you get here.

Hi Again Joe, I would be working at a company as an employee, not teaching, not business.  Your last comment brings up a new question too!  Is it possible to go to Thailand and then once you are there, apply and convert a tourist visa into a  non-b visa? Thought it might be prohibited.

You could arrive on tourist visa and with supporting documents apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa (category B) entry at immigration.

You could also enter on a tourist visa and then apply for a non-b visa at a nearby embassy or consulate.

Thank you very much Joe, this was very helpful and informative. I try to get in touch with them to make sure, but, yeah, very much appreciated.   ❤️
