Workers injured in stampede at Korat chicken processing factory

By The Nation

A fire broke out at chicken meat processing factory in Nakhon Ratchasima on Thursday morning, prompting workers to run for their lives in a stampede that left some injured.

Police said the fire started at 10.25am at the Vanguard Foods Thailand factory in the Suranaree Industrial Estate in Tambon Nong Bua Sala of Muang district.

The factory processes chicken, making grilled, fried and frozen chicken products for export.

Police said some 20 workers were operating grilling machines when the blaze broke out, prompting them to run.

Several fell and were injured as other panicked workers ran over them.

About 20 fire engines quickly brought the blaze under control.

Jimbo1964's got it.....obviously a Fire Evacuation Plan didn't exist or no regular training and/or annual Fire Drill conducted.  When will these factories learn not to cut corners on personnel safety.

How we know?

The evacuation meetingpoint seems to be around the fence…:whistling:

Cutting corners is a Thai speciality. I see it every time when driving around.

I was a fireman for 25rs and have very rarely seen the perfect evacuation plan . For the weakest link in the plan IS the human factor. If you work on the basis " you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink" . Then add the " factor that sometimes when you are up to arse in alligators, you forget that the original plan was to drain the swamp". Then you end up with the actual evacuation. As seen in this post, as for building regs and construction, dare I say 'nanny state Uk' Grenfell flats London..  where there is a cheap  alternative. There is a blind eye and a brown envelope .
