Hi

I met my teerak whilst she was a student, her visa since expired and she went back home. I have since visited the LoS on 3 occasions, and on the last, we got married (woohoo!)

Since then however I have changed from permanent salaried work, to temporary agency work.

I can still comfortably clear 18,600 over 6 months, however there are gaps between jobs, and I believe they take the lowest payslip and multiply it by 6 months, which I'm not in a position to do right now, and I'm looking to jump into other permanent salaried work as soon as the right opportunity presents itself.

I can however provide a recent P60 and 12 months payslips across a couple of companies for a 12 month period, but I'll likely not be able to get anything other than the payslips which are emailed to me every week. I doubt I will be able to get hard copies from HR stamped or certified to be true.

I'm quite keen to get my wife over as soon as I can now. I know she will need to pass a test in speaking and listening English and will need the TB clear certificate. I didn't know about needing to pass a life in the UK test (the thai translation doc doesn't work BTW) and we went through the hassle of having the marriage document translated and certified during our last trip to Bangkok so that's at least one thing we can tick off the to do list.

I own my home, but I've been waiting to receive the deeds for nearly 9 months now, so I can only show the land register entry.

I had also thought about taking out a 5 year life insurance policy with additional critical illness cover of at least £46,500 (2.5 x 18,600) for the sake of supporting the application.

Is there anything I've missed, and can anyone recommend a particular school? Half of the official approved list is made up of hotels and the other half only seem to advertise IELTS which is probably way higher than her needs.

Any advice would be appreicated.

Hi,

Congratulations on your wedding

You don't need to worry about life in the UK test at the moment - it's only needed for ILR.

It terms I'd the finincial requirement I presume you are earning over £18,600 in your current job but been there for less than 6 months.

If so you will need 12 months payslips (and bank statements) and a confirmation letter from your previous employers stating gross annual salary, length of employment, period you were paid, type of employment.

I've just done this for my wife's application - I actually drafted the letters and emailed them to previous employers and asked them to post me an original on headed paper. They all done it very quickly.

A p60 will certainly help but the guidance states this is in addition to the above.

Ps I'm no expert on this it's just my view. If you haven't done so download appendix fm 1.7 finincial requirement.

If she takes the English test in Thailand she has to take the IELTS Life Skills A1 or B1 test. This is different from the IELTS Academic or General Training tests. She can do this in Bangkok at IDP or British Council. A1 is all that's required for the initial visa, but if her English is very good, she can take B1 and then, assuming she passes, use this for Leave to Remain later.

I'm sure she could easily pass the A1 test and will have a fair chance of passing B1 too. I wasn't too sure if the B1 could be recycled for the visa renewal as the guidance wasn't that clear. It may be worth sticking her in at the deep end.

My previous employer are a bit salty as we are currently involved in a legal dispute, so I can't count on them willingly providing the aforementioned document service with a smile. I'm hoping the documents I have to hand already would be enough.

Another thing I wondered is about the relationship evidence people submit. I don't personally feel like going to the extent of some people of including 50 pages of private chat logs. I'm happy to toss in a couple of photos, but I don't feel they have the right, or the need to know every single thing we have ever said!

Relationship evidence is more important for an applicant who has been living apart from their sponsor for a cosiderable period of time, for instance where a sponsor lives in the UK and his Thai girlfriend wants to visit.

In your case you are married, so have evidence of the fact, though it would be good if you could if you could provide some sort of details of your time together to back up the marriage certificate, stamps in your passport proving that you've visited Thailand would certainly give you a fighting chance. I'm not sure that you'd need to include fifty pages of chat evidence and the UKVI specifically advice against the submission of photographs.

I'm not sure that the insurance policy you mention would add anything to the appliaction.

I think the land registry entry together with details of the property would meet the requirements.

Both IELTS Life Skills A1 & B1 are conducted in pairs, and interaction and communication skills are part of the assessment criteria.

In A1 the candidates just have to ask each other questions and then later discuss a topic together.  If one candidate is much weaker, the Examiner helps out.

In B1, each candidate gives a short talk on a topic and the other candidate asks them questions.  Later they have to plan something together and reach a decision.  Then there's a discussion on something related to the topic.  Politeness, turn-taking, and other skills are assessed as well as language.

Both A1 and B1 have a Listening component, with a gist question and then listening for specific detail.  The B1 Listening is much harder than the A1.

Feel free to PM me if you want further details.

Well, the Tb test and English test with return flights to Bangkok have been booked and paid for.

My wallet has taken a beating recently (new motorcycle, carbon fibre wheels and other extras) so I can't show £62,500 for the savings route. The thought process regarding the life insurance being that should I have a critical illness and I am unable to work, the policy would cover me so I can continue to take care of her without recourse to public funds for the duration of her visa.

There is of course, the added bonus of not leaving her in the lurch should the worst happen. I have currently left everything to my blood relatives and I'll wait a few years before amending my will to give everything to her and our children, if any. The extra policy wouldn't be wasted - it will go to her so she isn't left empty handed.

I think I'll ask a professional friend to certify my payslips and p60 to be true and hope it should do the trick.

The UKVI also seem to want chat history, call history or photos of our time together. We primarily use Line, and the export feature isn't the best. I think it would be easier to toss in a couple of photos and hope for the best?

Proof of relationship

If you’re applying as a spouse or partner, you’ll be asked about:

  • your relationship with your partner, for example how you met and how often you see each other
  • how long you’ve lived together - you’ll need to send proof like council tax bills
  • things you pay for together
  • whether you’re your partner’s carer

If you’re applying to join your partner in the UK, you’ll need to send other proof, for example WhatsApp messages, Skype history or photos of you together
