Atm Money Transfers Between Thai Banks

Featured Replies

This may be a big 'duh' to some readers, but perhaps welcome news to others:

When transferring money from your Thai bank account to someone else's Thai bank account, it can all be done quick and painlessly from any ATM machine. All you'll need is the receiver's bank account#, which bank it's at (branch not necessary), and sometimes, you'll need to know whether it's a checking or savings account.

As many expats know, paying for things long-distance in Thailand is most often done by bank to bank transfer. Writing checks is almost never used, and credit cards - well, that's a whole other story.

Don't get me started, but for many Thai people (and others), a credit card is strange wonder: a little plastic card that (they think) can provide them with nearly limitless buying power. Oh, and there's the screwy little matter of receiving a pay a bill every once in awhile. Not a big deal, as long as you can avoid the bill - either by moving to a different address, changing your name, telling the postman a fib, or getting a rich farang boyfriend/husband (they're all rich aren't they?) ....at least they all seem to be able to walk up to ATM's anytime and pull out wads of 1,000 baht bills - willy nilly.

ok, sorry for the rant, but I had to let off some steam.
