Hi to all!I hope someone can help me,I am wondering if The lady  Goy and her husband are still managing Magic Resort in Lamai -north beach area (just south of the small bridge over the creek)--its across from Lily house, any ideas ?

I stayed there back in '05 and would like to again but( A.) they mentioned they were maybe done as of feb '06 and( B.) I don't get any replies from the reservation site that handles things there. If they are there, then I would definitely stay there as they are awesome hosts!!!if not ,perhaps its time to find another 'home' base.

I really appreciate any help!!!

Thanks

I haven't been there in a bit, but last time I was, the place was a total dump. Typical Thai, "Don't put a baht into repairs or upkeep" sort of place. I will look for you, though.

Hey Mark,Thanks for the effort!Yeah when I was there in feb 05 things were running fine...but as I said earlier, they were planning on moving on in feb 06 or so.Goy said they were opening up a little food and bar patio place at the new(then) strip of shops along the road (main road) out towards just past the turn to Lamai beach road from Chaweng (wow ,bad description!!!sorry!)I think just before the gas station on the left before the road bends .

Anyway ,yeah if you find anything out please let me know as she and her husband were very good to me over the years and I'd like to continue to support their business! Finding people you can trust while travelling is a uncommon thing these days...unfortunately.

Thanks again,

FarangRussIam

p.s.yeah the place was never the 'ritz'--but sufficed for my needs and she only charged me 200-300 baht night even in high season, and amazing food!!!Cheers!

Goy's lease run out after many many years. They are indeed a very nice couple.

Mark, as to your remark, they always had a clean place, but why would they invest when the lease is up? A vicious circle but an understandeble one.

Here's a sample of what she was facing, she had only bamboo hut for a couple of hundred a night and one or two a/c room near the beach.

Two high seasons ago, she had rooms available and Lamai was packed to the rafters, but when folks came down to see her rooms, she couldn't sell them since everybody was looking for a/c rooms.

It does like the days of very cheap accomodation are over in Samui.

Thanks to you also for any efforts to this search!!

Russ,

Haven't been down to Lamai for a long time and haven't seen them for a longer time.

Last time I saw her, Goy told me that they were planning on opening a resort on Koh Phangan. You seem to have more updated info.

Limbos,

well I guess its not for the lack of trying, huh?Yeah I'll have to see if I can track them down;that little patio bar may have run its course and then they moved on to Koh Phangan-I don't know.I appreciate your input and I suppose the search continues!I guess I just feel that if I'm going to spend my hard earned money somewhere there,I may as well pay it to someone whom appreciates it,values it and more importantly deserves it due to to excellent service and hospitality!

Cheers and Chok Dee!

The first five bungalows nearest the beach are concrete and look newly refurbished. The pathway has been repaired and the other bungalows appear decent.

They still have that one oddly positioned wooden bungalow right in front which is still a shanty used for storage of old paint, and so on. They have made a garage for the jet skiis right under the edge of the elevated cafe, so you have to pass them every time you walk by.

I was not aware of the lease coming up thing, but if nothing was done toward the end because of it, it shows poor business sense and laziness. The bungalows and surrounding area were allowed to fall into disrepair for a very long time indeed. I mean many months here.

The money it would have taken to fix the path and spruce up the place would have been minimal. It was clearly that the owners were being niggardly and lazy. They would have gotten their money back if people had been attracted back to the place, but as it was, it was a shitehole. I looked at the bungalows about 10 months ago or something and they smelled of mould and looked like very bad prison cells.

They do look like normal bungalows now, however.

Thanks Mark!yeah I hope there has been some upgrade even if its minimal as that place holds some great memories for me. I don't need much in terms of accomadation --I really just sleep in the hut anyway, but I went back time and time again because Goy and the other ladies who cooked there made AWESOME food, and they were really nice to me and showed they cared.I must say I'm a guilty farang when it comes to using 200 or 300 baht/night huts but I make up for it in the amount I spend in food and beer there!

As Limbos mentioned earlier, about the possibility of them having gone to Koh Phangan,I guess I'll try to track them down there. If you hear anything I'd appreciate a pm or whatever.

cheers and have a cold one on the beach for me!its -20 c here in Edmonton Tonight!!

Chok Dee!!
