Artists Saturday paint a mural dedicated to the international rescue effort that affected the safe extraction of 13 people from a flooded cave in Chiang Rai province.

CHIANG RAI — A famous national artist Saturday unveiled plans for a 10 million baht monument to the recent miraculous cave rescue, which would feature the diver who gave his life for the cause.

Chalermchai Kositpipat, the artist behind one of Chiang Rai’s biggest tourist draws, along with several other local artists, designed the monuments including a 20-meter pavilion to memorialize the 18-day mission to rescue 13 people who became trapped in the flooded cave on June 23. Against all odds, their rescue was completed Tuesday.

Chalermchai said officials have approved the project, which would be situated in the front area of the Luang Khun Nam Nang Non cave.

The cave rescue pie getting sliced up...next its the ''Cave song'' followed by the ''Cave poem'', ''Cave coffee mugs T shirts'' and ''Cave mud''....let the good times roll

That’s way too slow, it started during week 1 !

Moo Pa t-shirts and bags on offer in local markets.

Sure some of the money went to a relevant cause and it wasn’t just opportunistic exploitism of their misfortune.....

Pathetic waste of  money, why not give it to a  hospital or fix  the roads

Be careful ... suggesting that money be spent on something useful and corruption free could get you moved to Phayao ... there has been a precedent set ......

is the artist donating 10 M THB of his own money,or does he want 10 M THB for doing it ?

As far as I believe to have clearly understood Khun Chalermchai in a 5 mins TV news interview this afternoon it's his own money he's offering for the monument.
But even though my Thai is sufficient for everyday communication it's not my native language ...

The boys are safe from their ordeal in the cave. Now are they safe from the ordeal outside the cave. Who is there to look after their interest? Beautiful gesture to donate painting, but then you are promoting yourself. Such a cash offer could be better managed? What do u think.
