A man allegedly shot dead a couple before turning the gun on himself in Bangkok early on Monday in what police suspect to be a love-triangle double murder and suicide.

The Phetkasem police station was told of the shootings at 3.30am.

Police, rescuers from the Potektueng Foundation and a doctor from Siriraj Hospital found the bodies on the ground floor of a five-storey shophouse that sells car care products on Soi Bang Kae-Klong Nong Yai in the city’s Bang Kae district.

The couple were identified as Somporn Choedkwanjai, 31, and her husband, Sorasak Sukhanthapong, 41. The alleged gunman was identified Chayut Boonwongthanachai, 45.

When police arrived, they found Chayut's body on top of Sorsak’s. Somporn’s body was found by the iron gate to the house.

Chayut was shot once through his right temple, while Somporn and Sorasak were shot through the left temple.

Witnesses said Chayut had gone to talk to Somport at the restaurant where she worked at 1.30am. They had a quarrel and both went to the shop house.

The couple’s friends they heard a commotion and went to the house, where they saw Chayut hold Somporn by her neck and pull out his pistol. When Sorasak rushed in to try to help his wife, Chayut shot Somporn and then Sorsak before shooting himself, they said.

Police have still to establish the background to the incident.

Why does this never happen in Britain, Australia or anywhere else? Why are Western and other nationality 's male egos so robust and modest? Totally beyond my fragile understanding.*

* turns sarcastic mode to off.

In the countries you mentioned, I think you will find that most failed husband/wife relationships merely end up in divorce and NOT in the death of the people involved.  Of course, the absence of an immediately available weapon in those countries does help as well.  For some unknown reason they seem to think that killing everyone involved does not really produce any satisfactory outcome

No mention of a failed marriage, the husband was shot going to help his wife.

Are you suggesting that most marriage problems here end with everyone killing

each other?

Most failed relationships in Thailand also end up in a plain separation or a divorce , violence against an ex -partner happens in every Country .

The only difference is that the TVF members don't go out killing people due to loss of face.

I don't know...judging by the vitriol I've seen expressed in flame wars on this forum, usually over some trivial issue, pistols at dawn would be a regular event if dueling was still a sanctioned option for aggrieved members.

Yet another sad, hackneyed "fragile Thai male ego" comment on full display yet again.

No argument there.  The only difference is that the TVF members don't go out killing people due to loss of face.  It's unfortunate, but it's almost a daily thing that some Thai male kills his wife or girlfriend because they are cheating on him, or he thinks they are.  And yes, in some cases it's the wife or gf who does the killing.  Thai people seem unable to look at a situation, and if it sucks, just walk away.  True, it also happens in the West,  but with no where near the regularity it happens in Thailand.  Love the Thai people, for the most part, but it seems that far too many of them stopped growing emotionally around the age of 12.

"...it's almost a daily thing that some Thai male kills his wife or girlfriend because they are cheating..."

Really, got any statistics to back that up?

"True, it also happens in the West,  but with no where near the regularity it happens in Thailand".

Really?  What are the statistics, then?

"...but it seems that far too many of them stopped growing emotionally around the age of 12".

Nonsense, obviously.

The public have been condemning these types of crime on social media. Lets hope that the citizens can force the government to make the changes needed to curb this, e.g. gun ownership and tighter regulation of drinking hours. RIP
