The South Bangkok district court on Saturday sentenced a male driver to two months and 15 days in jail for threatening a female driver with a knife after he drove against the traffic to cut in front of her car.

Sitthiporn Suayngarm, 42, was arraigned in court by officers from the Thung Mahamek Police Station on Saturday morning and the court swiftly handed down the sentence after the defendant pleaded guilty. A video clip provided strong evidence.

The court declined to suspend the jail term despite Sitthiporn pleading guilty, as the court regarded his act as a serious crime.

Sitthiporn turned himself in to police on Friday and issued an apology to the woman, saying he was in a bad mood after quarrelling with his girlfriend.

The man was slapped with five charges: damaging another person’s asset, intimidating another person, carrying a knife in a public place without licence, parking car in a prohibited area and changing lane unlawfully.

The crime took place on Tuesday morning at an intersection on Suan Plue Road in Bangkok’s Sathon district near the Bangkok Technical College and was recorded by the dashboard camera of the 64-year-old woman.

The clip from the dashboard went viral and had more than a 1 million views.

The clip shows a man at the wheel of a black Toyota Camry repeatedly trying to cut in front of a car whose dashboard cam recorded the incident, by driving against the traffic.

The man finally managed to complete the illegal overtaking manoeuvre after they drove through an intersection. He then stopped his car, exited, opened the trunk and pulled out a long knife. The dashboard video showed him walking towards the woman’s car before he disappeared from the clip.

Motorist jailed !! Good exactly what was needed.

Makes a welcome change from a 500 baht fine and a wai.

Jail is what is needed to show others what will happen when you behave like that.

In this care it was no brake failure. It was a brain failure.

Is this not the normal way when overtaking other vehicles?

And an example that very quick investigation, appearance in court and in jail is possible.

So RTP, why can't you do the same with the current several cases of beatings etc?

I would have paid good money to have seen his face when the sentence was handed down! ?

I am sure he was expecting the usual fine and a slap on the wrist.

Classic.

I think this guy wasn't any1 of importance.

Hence, the fast action.

If that was a Merc he was driving, completely different outcome.

Yahooo, about time

Good news, if not a little surprising. Maybe we have turned a corner with Thailand clamping down on this kind of behaviour. Appropriate sentence in my opinion.

I think I'll put my machete back in the shed.

He should have known this behavior only goes unpunished if you or your family holds the "Untouchable Elite Card". Where would this country go, if every Somchai falsely claims these privileges?

The funniest part of this story is that he won when he got in front of her, then he had to be a loser, sucked in, enjoy your 2 and a half months, no doubt your girlfriend will be waiting for you, NOT, that is unless she is scared of your manhood in the boot of your car.

As for the female driver not letting him in, typical Thai, no patience, no giving, no nothing, what would it have taken to just chill girl, but then again, Thai's are Thai's.

Right court direction just 15 months short.

The Fragile Thai Males............ .. when lose face... It's Taken to harm anyone in their paths.

To low sentence and fine

This man has no respect for life

Yes, but only for the not so 'Hi so's'.  This was the normal idiot you'll see in everyday traffic.

Depends on whose involved. This dipstick must be a nobody, not connected and not wealthy. Might even have rubbed up the wrong people.

Would it have been legal for her to pull her permit approved Magnum .357 and put two or three into the Machete man's chest?

But, 'Your Honor', I had a reason....

Oh my, is justice finally coming to Thailand ? Sentence sounds fair enough ?

The argument with his girlfriend was most likely about his temper.

When is Thailand going to start sentencing these guys to anger management classes?

Result......Brain dead beware.....:stoner:

.......saying he was in a bad mood after quarrelling with his girlfriend.

So, that's alright then if you had a hissy-fit with your girlfriend. Again, these moronic excuses and blaming something else for you being a violent hair-trigger delusional scumbag. Good call judge...although I would have added an extra month for the dodgy stache/goaty.

This is really not normal..the behaviour and mainly the increasing numbers of motorists acting as such....they should go through systematic drug screening ?? ... and if they are not acting so stupidly due to drugs, there is really something to worry about the direction this society in taking....once again, such behaviour is not normal !!

Very pleased at this outcome, brilliant...........
